Last Thursday, our newly elected school council members met to discuss ideas for how the small quad could be developed- this is the area just outside the Drama Studio.
There are now 24 members of the school council! This year we plan to meet for dedicated blocks of time to work on a variety of projects to benefit the school community, as well as develop the communication, teamwork and leadership skills of the young representatives. Our first project involves the small quad.
The idea is to show children how organisations, like schools and companies, should strive to listen and include the voices and opinions of the stakeholders they serve. With this in mind, each class spent their PHSE time suggesting and discussing how they would like to use the small quad in their break and lunchtimes.
The teachers explained that the area had to include creative activities that were easy to tidy up and would be popular with all children. The council’s first task was to consider the ideas brainstormed by each class in terms of how well they met the brief. Then they had to come up with a proposal for how the area should be used.
The children worked across their age ranges and were encouraged to present their ideas through writing, drawing or by recording a video. Their hard work was accompanied by a delicious snack of pancakes, fruit and maple syrup!
There were lots of fantastic proposals – from a mini-stage for performing and acting on – to Lego construction- as well as peaceful reading or painting areas. Junk modelling was also popular. There were even requests for a treehouse or may be an ant farm!
The school council’s proposals have been forwarded to the Senior Management Team, who will work out how to incorporate the children’s ideas into the remodeled small quad. Mr. Steve will feed the final design back to the school council, who in turn will be able to explain the plans to their classes. Thus completing the decision-making cycle.

We are currently in discussion with Samitivej Children’s Hospital regarding the provision of a vaccination service to help protect our community during flu season. The planned date for this is Friday 17th November, with shots being administered after 1pm and children returning home following the vaccination
The hospital will be using a 4-strain vaccination. Please note the following in regards to the vaccinations:
*Children 6 months to 3 years require 2 shots, around one month apart.
**Children 3-9 years old receiving the flu vaccine for the first time require 2 shots, around one month apart.
These second doses will be administered in school if we reach the minimum number required by the hospital. This dose will be shortly after the Christmas Break.
***Those who are allergic to eggs should not receive the vaccine
This year is reported to be a bad year for Influenza, and already in school we have seen a number of confirmed cases.

As of next Monday, we will be having a new shuttle bus service linking the campus with Gateway Ekamai. This should provide an alternative transport arrangement for many of our families and will go some way to help alleviate pressure on the car park.
We will also be trialling a new boarding system for the paid school bus service with buses now being boarded within the campus, rather than out on Pridi 20. This should speed up boarding and make it safer for all of our students.
Please remember that students who do not have any ECAs should be picked up from school by 3 pm. Students who are still on campus after 3pm and are unaccompanied will be moved to the library. If you are on campus at this time, your children should be with you in an area where you can clearly monitor them.
