It was a very busy Half-Term for many High School students, with students, and teachers, taking part in the Ski Trip to Austria, the Dive Trip to Koh Chang and the NAE Expedition to Tanzania, which continues until Thursday this week, as well as the Senior Boys TISAC Football Tournament this weekend.
There will be more Dive Trips later this term - anyone interested should contact Dr Siona - siona.ma@standrews.ac.th.
Last term we announced that four Year 7 students will be flying to Boston in May for the NAE/MIT STEAM Festival.
16 students applied for this exciting opportunity, with so much effort and thought going into their robot designs - it is such a shame that we can only take four students. Really well done and thank you to all the applicants, you should be really proud of your efforts: Ton (7R), Ryu (7A), Paikea (7R), Jungwook (7A), Vin (7T), Beck (7L), Agam (7T), Varin (7T), Juan (7T), KP (7T), Mia (7T) and Makeen (7T).
And a huge congratulations to the winners: Amie (7L), Wynn (7R), Petit (7R) and Mina (7L). We look forward to hearing all about their trip later in the year.
In this morning’s High School Assembly, I introduced this year’s Nord Anglia Education Global Challenge. In partnership with UNICEF, our students have been challenged to work together to design practical solutions to support the Global Goals in our community, focusing this year on Global Goals 2 and 3, Zero Hunger and Good Health and Well-being.
The students will be working on this challenge between now and the end of this term, with groups of students submitting both a written sustainable development action plan (1000 words max) and a short film of the students summarising the key elements of their plan and the rationale for their approach (5 mins max).
As well as this challenge, which all High School students can be involved in, UNICEF have invited 80 Nord Anglia Education students (two from each school) in Years 10 and above to participate in the UN’s High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, taking place in New York in July 2017. Students will become NAE Ambassadors, and will influence politicians, demonstrating the action our schools are taking to tackle the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Students will arrive in New York on Wednesday 12th July, and will participate in workshops, seminars and debates for the week. They will also work together to deliver presentations to the UN’s High Level Political Forum on Tuesday 18th July, and will depart on Wednesday 19th July. More information on the High Level Political Forum can be found here.
Students who would like to be considered for selection for this amazing opportunity should come and see me to collect a letter for their parents.
Last week we took 18 students to Austria for a week on the slopes. Each student progressed so much over the week not only with their skiing but with how independent they had become, their listening skills, how well they worked together as a team and their positive mindset. Well done to all the students who went. Keep a look out next half term for details of next years trip.
