Art students in Year 10 are studying the theme of Natural and Man-made this half term. Recently they visited the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre and Jim Thompson’s House to support their contextual and observational studies, and to help them develop their competition entries for the PMAC World Art Contest: Everyone Matters.
At the exhibition Traces and Traits by Pratuang Emjaroen students took inspiration for their own practice from their experience of the artwork. Emjaroen is a nationally acclaimed Thai artist who embraces his life and family narrative whilst reflecting on changes in Thai society, economics and politics.
Later at Jim Thompson's House students immersed themselves in the grounds, a fantastic example of nature harmonising with architecture. Students sketched and took photographs as visual research for their artistic studies. An beautiful start to the year for the Art department.
With the goal of providing meaningful help to the flood victims in the northern regions of Thailand, our entire community at St Andrews Bangkok came together to raise funds and donations for the affected families. In the span of a few short weeks, added to donations of food and clothing, we managed to raise an astounding total of 386,676.50 THB in donation funds. To all students, teachers, parents, and staff who participated in our efforts and contributed to this cause—thank you!
