Bruce Fawcett
Head of School
Bruce was appointed Head of School after serving as Assistant Head of School for six years at North Broward Preparatory School. He started as a High School Social Science teacher and Department Chair. He also served as the Assistant High School Principal and the Principal of the Lower School before moving into his current position.

Bruce was appointed Head of School after serving as Assistant Head of School for six years at North Broward Preparatory School. He started as a High School Social Science teacher and Department Chair. He also served as the Assistant High School Principal and the Principal of the Lower School before moving into his current position.

Bruce earned his Bachelor’s in Education from Nova Southeastern University and his Master’s in Education from Walden University. Prior to joining North Broward Preparatory School, Bruce spent 15 years as a middle and high school teacher in both public and private schools in South Florida.

Bruce has three children, two who had attended and one who currently attends North Broward Preparatory School. Outside of school, Bruce can be found spending time with his family, fishing the backwaters of South Florida, or traveling.

Assistant Head of School
Chris Petruzzi is thrilled to begin his 23rd year with North Broward Preparatory School. During this time, he has served in advancing roles, including Fine Arts Director, Vice President of Fine Arts, and Nord Anglia Education’s Global Performing Arts Lead.

Chris Petruzzi is thrilled to be in his twenty-third year with the North Broward Preparatory School. He has served in advancing instructional and administrative roles, including Fine Arts Director, Vice President of Fine Arts (Meritas), and most recently Nord Anglia Education Global Performing Arts Lead.

 

Chris is grateful each day to contribute towards helping our students ignite their passions and find their purpose.  Similarly, he is thankful to share this joyful work with an exceptionally capable and dedicated team of educators and administrators. 

 

Chris continually seeks to hone his skills as an educational leader through participation in professional learning such as Harvard Graduate School of Education’s: Certificate in School Management and Leadership Program and Arts and Passion-Driven Learning Institute, the Nueva Design Thinking Institute, and programs at The Juilliard School.

 

Born in western New York, Chris earned degrees from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (B.M.) and the Aaron Copland School of Music, C.U.N.Y. (M.A.). He additionally holds the Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate.

 

Chris is deeply grateful to share in providing our children an ever-improving academic environment to thrive and develop as individuals.

Managing Director
John Lehman joined North Broward Prep as Managing Director in 2011 after a 20-year career serving as a Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance, and Division Controller in a variety of industries.
John Lehman
John Lehman joined North Broward Prep as Managing Director in 2011 after a 20-year career serving as a Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance, and Division Controller in a variety of industries including manufacturing, post-secondary education, gaming, and holding companies.  

John brings significant financial expertise to his role with a deep understanding of financial markets, corporate finance, accounting and controls, and facilities compliance. In addition, John has a strong background in both cash and accrual accounting systems, all aspects of financial forecasting and reporting, resource allocation, operational analyses, sales pipeline management, and the implementation of cost reduction practices and efficiency optimization.  

John earned his Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Kentucky and is a Certified Public Accountant.

John has two children who attend school at North Broward Preparatory School. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, golfing, and camping with his children.
Lower School Principal
Kathleen Malanowski
Lower School Principal
Kathleen holds a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Boston University's School of Education and a Master's in Education from Walden University in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Kathleen Malanowski
Kathleen has been the Lower School Principal since 2012, following two years as the Lower School Assistant Principal. Prior to serving as a lower school administrator, Kathleen was a fifth-grade teacher and team leader at NBPS since 2001.

Kathleen holds a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Boston University's School of Education and a Master's in Education in curriculum, instruction, and assessment from Walden University.  Kathleen's prior experiences include teaching for the Archdiocese of Miami, the Archdiocese of Chicago, The University School of NSU, and Broward County Public Schools.

Kathleen has spent several years developing a comprehensive understanding of building a “Culture of Thinking,” implementing thinking routines and maps as a school-wide practice and aligning instruction to standards and assessments. By completing trainings through the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Project Zero, The Principal's Training Center, and the International Visible Thinking Conference at FIU, Kathleen has been able to strongly lead the faculty and staff of the Lower School in developing an exemplary educational program. Kathleen is also a founding member of ColLABorate South Florida, a professional learning community dedicated to developing strong teaching and learning practices within its member schools.

In 2015, Kathleen was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Florida Kindergarten Council, which accredits and serves independent schools throughout the state of Florida. Kathleen is honored to continue in this role.

Kathleen is also the proud parent of three North Broward Prep graduates: Kyle, Class of 2012, and Katelyn and Kelsey, Class of 2015. She and her husband of 24 years reside in Coral Springs.

Middle School Principal
Kerri began her career at NBPS serving as a classroom teacher. Since then she has held the roles of science department head, assistant principal and now principal.  She holds a master's degree in secondary education and has completed Nord Anglia's Senior Leadership Programme.

Tanya Lynch
High School Principal
Tanya has been a member of the NBPS community since 2003. In that time, she has served as a classroom teacher, team leader, Assistant Principal in both the Lower and High Schools, and currently as the High School Principal.

Tanya holds a Bachelor's in Education and a Master’s in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.

During her tenure at NBPS, Tanya has had an immeasurable impact on student learning, teachers’ professional development, and systematic school improvements. Tanya is incredibly passionate and motivated in her approach to teaching and learning and has developed both her own expertise and the capacity of other educators on our campus in their abilities to foster, grow, and sustain a school-wide culture that is centered around high-quality instruction, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.

Tanya has had numerous opportunities to present and train teachers at NBPS, within our international family of Nord Anglia Education schools, and abroad. Whether the teacher development is centered on visible thinking, thinking maps, global goals integration, design thinking, data analysis, or standards-based learning, Tanya is an engaging, impactful, and exceptional presenter and trainer.

Tanya channels her vision and passion for education into deliberate and well-planned actions that yield effective and notable results. She is a self-starter, as well as a driver of positive change, and she motivates and inspires those around her.

Tanya is a highly respected and valued member of the NBPS leadership team and the larger Nord Anglia Education family. She has made a significant, positive impact on our school and has developed wonderful personal relationships with faculty, students, and families. Tanya and her husband Adam are the proud parents of Mason and Kate, two of our NBPS Lower and Middle School students, and she is incredibly proud to be an NBPS Eagle.

Stacey Amelchenko
Director of Student Life
Stacey is the Director of Student Life, overseeing many of the student leadership, extracurricular, and social activities that enrich our students’ education outside of the classroom.
Stacey Amelchenko
Stacey is the Director of Student Life, overseeing many of the student leadership, extracurricular, and social activities that enrich our students’ education outside the classroom. Specifically, Stacey advises the Student Government and its officers; manages schoolwide event planning; serves as the faculty liaison for the PSTA; oversees student-run clubs and organizations; and heads the alumni program.

Stacey has been with North Broward Preparatory School since 2005. Prior, she was an adjunct professor at Lynn University and taught middle school and elementary special education in Miami-Dade and Broward public schools. 

Stacey earned both her Master’s in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and her Bachelor’s in Special Education and Psychology from the University of Miami.

Stacey and her husband Paul have two boys, Zachary (future NBPS Class of ’26) and Brady (future NBPS Class of ’33).

Tricia Amrhein
Director of Athletics

Tricia Amrhein's impressive journey through the world of athletics at North Broward Prep School (NBPS) is a testament to her unwavering dedication, extensive expertise, and passion for excellence. Her trajectory at NBPS spans over two decades, beginning in 2003 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and her Master’s of Exercise and Sports Sciences, Sports Management at the University of Florida.

Tricia Amrhein

Tricia's deep connection with NBPS began as she stepped into the role of athletic intern which eventually allowed her to evolve through various roles within the department. Tricia's versatility and commitment have seen her serve as an assistant and head coach in flag football and soccer, where she imparted her profound knowledge of the sports to countless student-athletes. She currently also serves as Head Coach to the NBP Girls Varsity Soccer Team.  


Beyond her coaching prowess, Tricia's role as the sports information director allowed her to showcase her exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Her contributions didn't stop there, as she continued to climb the ranks, eventually taking on the responsibilities of assistant athletic director and, most recently, as an associate athletic director. Each step of her journey has been characterized by her tireless pursuit of excellence.


Throughout her tenure at NBPS, Tricia Amrhein has not only fostered a reputation as a respected coach but has also demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities that extend beyond the athletics program. Her unwavering dedication to both athletics and the NBPS community has shone brightly, illuminating her profound insights into the intricacies of NBPS, our students, parents, coaches, and the dynamics of our athletics programs.


Tricia's commitment to the development of student-athletes goes far beyond the playing field. She understands the importance of character, teamwork, and perseverance in shaping young minds, instilling these values in each athlete she has had the privilege to work with. Her guidance and mentorship continue to impact the lives of countless NBPS students.

Ariel Jespersen
Director of Educational Technology
Ariel Jespersen joined North Broward Preparatory School in 2015 as a Middle School Science teacher. She later taught as a K–8 STEAM Integrator. In her current role as Director of Educational Technology and Innovation, she helps educators tap into the potential of technology for innovative teaching and learning.
Robert Kenevan
Robert Kenevan is excited to join North Broward Preparatory School as the new Director of Educational Technology. For over 20 years, Robert has worked in the K-12 education industry. 

His profession began as an elementary homeroom teacher and transitioned into senior leadership roles in STEAM innovation and education. During his career, Robert has worked and lived throughout the Americas including Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, and the US. Robert has completed a range of academic studies that include Commercial Pilot training, a liberal arts degree from Norwich University, along with a Master of Education in Technology and Management.

Brian Johnson
Director of College Advising
Brian joined NBPS in 2020 after more than a decade in college admissions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has worked with diverse groups of students from around the world, including student-athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, and academically gifted students at a broad range of colleges and universities.

Brian joined NBPS in 2020 after more than a decade in college admissions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has worked with diverse groups of students from around the world, including student-athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, and academically gifted students at a broad range of colleges and universities.


Brian served as the Director of Admissions Marketing and Recruitment at Emmanuel College in Boston and Director of Admissions at the New York Film Academy, where he oversaw enrollment and evaluation for new and traditional programs. He has also consulted for higher education as a marketing and communications strategist and previously taught economics and finance at an independent high school. 


Brian earned a Bachelor of Arts and, later, a Masters of Business Administration with an Advanced Certificate in sports & entertainment studies from Iona University in New Rochelle, NY. He is a student-centered educator with a passion for partnering with families to facilitate student discovery, create opportunities, and find the best fit in the college selection journey, a process he enjoys making exciting and rewarding for everyone involved.


Brian enjoys spending time on the water and at the beach with his wife Meagan and two children.

Director of Admissions and Marketing
Carmen Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge and 14 years of exceptional experience to NBPS. Most recently, she held the role of Senior Associate Director of Admission at the University of Miami.

She started her career in college admission at Northeastern University. She then went on to be a College Transition Counselor at a small charter high school in Providence, RI - The Met School. After four years there, she transitioned back to college admission and went on to be the Associate Dean of Multicultural Recruitment at Providence College. Carmen received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. In her free time, Carmen enjoys spending time with her three sons, Jaiden, Jaice, and James. She also has a passion for home organization and decluttering.

Liz Korkosz
Director of Fine Arts
As a fourteen-year veteran in PK–12 Arts Education, Liz has extensive experience leading teaching and learning in the arts.

She specializes in developing sustainable and rich arts programs with varied offerings and challenging student opportunities. In addition to her role as Director of Choirs, she currently serves as the PK–12 Music Coordinator at NBPS, overseeing curriculum development, and supporting music initiatives in all classrooms. She has collaborated extensively across theatre, dance, and art on projects including founding/developing the Opera Program, Music Directing Musical Theatre productions, co-planning the Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festivals, and numerous other collaborative performances.

Before joining North Broward Preparatory School and the Nord Anglia Education family, she served for seven years as the Director of Fine Arts for the Beijing National Day School. During that time, she focused on expanding curricular and extracurricular offerings in music, theatre, dance, and visual arts — making the arts accessible to all students and visible in the community. 

Both in Beijing and here in South Florida, Liz has been proud to participate in professional organizations which have offered her students further opportunities for arts exposure. This includes the Palm Beach Opera Chorus, American Choral Directors Association, Florida Music Educators Association, and Beijing International Festival Chorus.

Oyuki Poletz
Director of Library Services
Oyuki Poletz joined North Broward Preparatory School as Director of Library Services in 2022 after a 15-year career as a public librarian.
Oyuki Poletz
Oyuki is excited to share her passion for reading and lifelong learning with the students of North Broward Prep and looks forward to shaping the Lower School Library and Learning Commons as spaces to support the information literacy and critical thinking skills needed for the 21st century. 

Oyuki earned her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida and holds a Bachelor’s in Art History from Florida Atlantic University. She is an avid reader (in any format) and has always worked with books and their readers. She began her library career as a children’s librarian at the Boca Raton Public Library and her background includes program development and Friends collaborations within an active two-branch library system. 

Oyuki was born in Mexico and grew up in South Florida. She and her husband, Paul, have two children, Hazel (future NBPS Class of ‘35) and Orion (future NBPS Class of ‘37). Outside of campus, Oyuki enjoys dining out, reading, baking, cooking, and spending time with her family.

James Standefer
Director of Lighthouse Point Academy
James believes strongly in the education and development of the whole child as a critical thinker and lifelong learner and is a progressive proponent of teaching and learning that inspires intrinsic motivation.
James Standefer
James joined the NBPS Leadership team in 2018. He started as a high school English teacher in the Chicagoland area, and has served as a classroom teacher, a special educator, and an administrator of special needs and student supports in public schools and private international schools. He is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Republic of the Philippines, 2002–04); and his career has taken him to places like Washington, DC; Silver Spring, MD; Stamford, CT; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

James earned his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education and Literature from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Master’s in Transitional Special Education from The George Washington University, and his principal’s certification from Antioch University, New England. He is also an accomplished high school football and volleyball coach.

James believes strongly in the education and development of the whole child as a critical thinker and lifelong learner and is a progressive proponent of teaching and learning that inspires intrinsic motivation, strengthens executive skills, and engages global literacy in the modern world. James is a strong advocate for all students and families in the LPA program. He always has their best interest in mind and strives to serve as a leader and mentor.

James and his wife Noreen have two children who currently attend North Broward Preparatory School. When not at school, James will likely be found spending time with his family, drawing and painting, or traveling.

Jon Volpi
Director of Residential Life
Jonathan Volpi has served as the Director of Residential Life since 2022.
Jon Volpi
Jon brings over 15 years of housing and residential life experience to North Broward Preparatory School. Prior, Jon was a member of the Residential Life team at St. Andrews for 3 years. His passion for residential life and his commitment to working with our students and staff have been present since he arrived on campus.

During his time at NBPS since 2019, Jonathan has served as a Campus Manager for Residential Life, NEST counselor, and advisor to our Residential Prefect Program. Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and a Master's in Student Personnel and Counseling in Higher Education from Widener University.

Jon currently resides on campus in the International Village and in his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking and exploring National Parks, and long-distance running.

Phil Wernersbach
Director of Technology Operations
Phil has been the Director of Technology Operations at North Broward Preparatory School since August 2008.

Phil has been the Director of Technology Operations at North Broward Preparatory School since August 2008. Phil provides leadership for the continued development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment throughout the school.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Phil served as an EMT with the NYC Fire Department for 11 years, when a career change in 2003 brought he and his family to South Florida, where he then began his employment at NBPS as a repair technician.

Phil holds certifications from Apple, Microsoft, COMPTIA, HP, Dell, and IBM. He earned a Bachelor’s in Network and Communications Management from DeVry University and continues to stay abreast of current technologies and professional development.
