Junior and Senior Thespians
Our theatre department sponsors Jr. Thespian (middle school) and Sr. Thespian (high school) troupes as part of our extracurricular offerings. The International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary group for middle and high school theatre, is a division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA). The mission of ITS is to honor student excellence in the theatre arts. Thespians is a great motivator for students to become more active in their school’s theatre program. Whether or not these students pursue careers in the performing arts, the skills that they learn through theatre and Thespian activities are invaluable and ensure that future generations will appreciate and support the arts in our communities. Jr. and Sr. Thespians participate in a variety of team building activities, community events, and performances as well as compete at District and State level competitions. Our troupes have received the top honor of Critics Choice at both the District and State level. Our high school musicals have been selected three times to perform on the mainstage at the Florida State Thespian Festival and at the International Thespian Festival.
South Florida Cappies Critics
The Cappies, Critics and Awards Program, is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers. At the end of the year, the student critics vote for awards that are presented at a formal Cappies Gala, where students perform songs and sketches from nominated shows.
Reviews written by North Broward Cappies critics are regularly published locally and North Broward critics and thespians regularly earn distinguished awards at the South Florida Cappies Gala.
