Early Years Campus Weekly Update

Early Years Campus Weekly Update - Early Years Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

What a great start to the week! This morning was a vibrant celebration of life and community as we had the honour of welcoming our special guests on campus—The Sai Kung Community Centre Elderly. At NAIS Hong Kong, Sai Kung, we value our ongoing relationship with the Elderly, who visit us regularly. From celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year with them to delivering mooncakes and performing plays, our interactions with the Elderly are always filled with warmth and joy.

Today, we warmly received a group of approximately 25 individuals from the Community Centre. The morning began with a delightful yoga session on our rooftop, where children and adults alike showcased not only their yoga skills but also their Mandarin proficiency. It was heartwarming to see the children and Elderly engaging together on this beautiful morning.

Following the yoga session, our Year 1 students and the Elderly came together downstairs for some craft activities with Ms. Lewsey. Collaboratively, they decorated plant pots, infusing them with vibrant colours and decorations, in preparation for the final session led by Ms. Mertz. Under her guidance, they learned how to carefully prepare and plant the seeds generously gifted by the Elderly community to the children.

Throughout these activities, our children had the opportunity to use Mandarin in a meaningful way, facilitating communication and sharing experiences together with our visitors. As the time came for our guests to bid us farewell, our entire student community gathered in the assembly space to sing farewell with some of their favourite songs and to thank the Elderly for visiting us.

A big thank you to LuLaoshi for organising the event, and to Ms. Lewsey and Mrs. Mertz for supporting the activities. It was indeed a special morning, celebrating the essence of our school community and acknowledging all those who contribute to the enriching learning experiences for our children at NAIS Hong Kong, Sai Kung.

Finally, a huge thank you to all our children, who were welcoming, caring, excited and so pleased to share their school with our special visitors.

World Children’s Day – Wear BLUE on Wednesday 20th November
World Children’s Day is a global day of action for children, by children, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). On this day, UNICEF advocates and raises awareness to protect and fulfil the rights of every child without discrimination.

To mark this day, we ask that all children and adults wear BLUE to school on the 20th, and throughout the day we will have special activities to raise awareness of children’s rights, particularly their right to be safe and listened to. Stay tuned for further details from Mrs. Mertz outlining the activities in which the children will participate.

We appreciate your ongoing support, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Hanson
