The council is comprised of peer-elected representatives who are eager to support and represent their classes, in an attempt to positively shape the Léman community. Student Council members are trusted and empowered by their classmates to serve as the voice for their year group. In communicating their fellow students’ needs, concerns, and desires to the teachers and administration, they develop a sense of purpose within the school, while building critical thinking and leadership skills. Student Council is a great way to develop leadership skills for our students and has contributed to keeping a balanced approach to school decisions by including students' input. Our students are asked to be leaders of the student body and to serve as positive role models for others to emulate. Some of the duties of our Student Council members are:
- Feedback of information from students to faculty.
- Advocating on behalf of the student body.
- Assisting in the organisation of activities such as House Events and charitable or service activities.
- Setting high standards for their peers to emulate.
- Representing the student body during accreditation visits.
- Acting as chaperones during visits to the school.
- Representing Léman's values and mission in their interactions with others.
At LIS, we have a dedicated University Counselor as a resource for students and families. The University Counselor advises students on assembling and developing their portfolios and resumes/curriculum vitas and coordinating letters of recommendation for them.
Our university counseling service starts from Year 10. The University Counselor meets with Secondary level students to help them explore, research, and develop their post-secondary education and career goals and plans. Our aim is to help students enter their top-choice university or college.
Student activities, clubs, sports, significant hobbies, interests, community volunteering, developed talents, and out-of-school employment are all important avenues for every student to develop their interests and lifelong learning goals.
Students have lots of opportunities to get further information for their university applications through visits from individual universities and our annual university fair, presentations, and workshops on university preparation, career insights, and more.
