SAIC University Visit

Léman International School Chengdu recently had the pleasure of hosting Emily Cai a former student and International Admissions Team member from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), who engaged with students from Léman International School’s Visual Arts DP students as well as the MYP Y10/11 students. Emily, a representative of SAIC, presented valuable information about the university, answered questions regarding the application process, shared exemplary portfolios from past students, and enlightened the audience on available scholarship support.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is a historically significant accredited independent school of art and design. SAIC is distinct with an interdisciplinary curriculum and allows students to cross disciplines in visual art and design. The visit was an exciting opportunity for students to gain insights into one of the most prestigious art schools in the world. Emily provided an in-depth overview of SAIC, showcasing its rich history and esteemed faculty. She also delved into the various academic programs and majors available to aspiring artists, highlighting the university's commitment to fostering creativity and innovation.

One of the highlights of Emily's visit was the discussion surrounding the application process. She guided students through the necessary steps, emphasizing the importance of a well-crafted portfolio and a strong statement of purpose. By sharing examples of successful past portfolios, Emily provided valuable guidance on how to showcase individual artistic abilities and potential.

Additionally, SAIC is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD), a non-profit consortium of the leading specialized art and design schools in the US and Canada.  As a member of AICAD, SAIC participates in National Portfolio Dayevents. Since the pandemic, there are virtual events hosted every month where students can sign up to meet with their top art & design school choices to have their portfolio reviewed. This is another opportunity that SAIC has made available for our Léman students, please schedule for upcoming Virtual NPDs that any Léman student might want to participate in.

Students can schedule a virtual portfolio review with someone from SAIC, they can select a date and time from calendar(more appointments continue to be added). SAIC highly recommends that prospective students do at least one portfolio review with us before submitting their application, to make sure they are positioning themselves for a good merit scholarship.
