Last May 30th, our entire student body performed and showcased their talents and skills in music, dance and drama. We are very proud of the outcome of our performances. Our JK to Grade 2 students performed a wide variety of songs that involved instrumental music and songs that with an earth, wind, fire and space theme. Even our JK students did a fantastic job performing their spaceman skit. Our SK and Grade1 students did a fabulous job performing simple tunes on the piano, xylophones and some percussion instruments. We also experienced duet performance from the siblings Melody and Brian who received a huge round of applause after performing “The One That Got Away” . Pachelbel’s Canon as performed by Scarlet on the violin and Hedy on the piano was also a show stopper. Our Grade 1C soloists warmed our hearts as they performed “At The Beginning” for our departing teachers!!! Well done to Ms. Cheena and Ms. Silvia for preparing our students.
In the afternoon, we were serenaded by our Grade 3 students on their recorders, Grade 4 made the audience clap and cheer as they play Rock Around the Clock and Hound Dog. And one of the highlights was having all grade 3-5 perform Viva La Vida and our Tribute song all together. It was such a memorable moment and we hope that our departing teachers know how much we appreciate everything that they have done for our school. Our Beginner Orchestra group did not sound like beginners anymore! Thanks to Ms. Cheena and Ms.Silvia for all their hard work with the students. They performed Perpetual Motion and Appalachian Hymn. Vicky our 6th grader trumpeter performed the Emperor’s Hymn accompanied on the piano by Luna. It was really good to see our new students take the center stage.
Our Intermediate and Advanced Orchestra worked so hard this school year. They faced a lot of challenges working on complex rhythmic patterns especially on John Williams Trilogy, they encountered various tempo and time signature changes on the “Music from Brave”, and they also performed Brahms’s Hungarian Dance #5 where the audience clapped along during the performance. Our orchestra also accompanied Sam, Sungjin, Henry and Ha Yeon as they performed Perfect Symphony, a music piece by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. Toby and Julian did a great job performing Concertino in Eb minor and of course our amazing pianist Woo Sol Choi gave a fantastic rendition of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathetique. I could not believe how fast his fingers can go from each piano key and still put the emotion intended for the piece. All I can say is “Bravo Woo Sol!”.
As we bid goodbye to some of our students who will move out of Léman, we serenaded them with the orchestra version of “Hello” by Adelle. It was a light music piece that will hopefully remind each student that they will be missed. Another highlight is the music piece Adiemus, it was a dream music piece for me and it finally came into reality. What a magical moment especially the part where students from Grade 3-10 joined and sang the choir parts as the orchestra accompanied Ha Yeon and Nella Jane. And that was just the first half!!!!
After Intermission, we presented our musical play Lemana Mia! I am so proud to see our students go out of their comfort zone and perform on stage. Not only did they perform on their major instruments, they also memorized songs, choreographies and their script and gave a fantastic show for everyone. Kudos to all the actors!!! Well done Danyal, Abdullah, Eileen, Giulio, Sam, Cleophee, Jasmine, Adia, Ygritte, Mudmee, Zahrah, Johnny, Max, Wo Sol, Sungjin, Simon, Buster,Henry, Ha yeon, Jena, Nella Jane, Becky, Vicky, Jessy and Chae!!!
Last, but not the least, our Masters of Ceremonies were all very articulate in introducing each performances! Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy schedule to support and watch our students’ performances. See you next year!!!!!
Musically yours,
Mrs. Cheryl Heyres- Bishal
