As the school bell rings on an autumn Tuesday afternoon, the LCIS theatre and music rooms spring to life. Performers rehearse lines and songs, while parents bustle in with freshly cleaned costumes and props. Down the music corridor, a soloist belts out their part with passion, while Head of Music, Ms Monteith, guides the orchestra—a mix of students and teachers—with precision and enthusiasm. Smiles reveal the joy behind the hard work.
In the theatre, lower secondary students rehearse singing, their voices steady and confident. The choreographer calls out corrections with a smile: “Your timing is off. Let’s try again.” It’s a scene of focus, progress, and determination—an embodiment of our students’ dedication to excellence.
Boosting Confidence and Building Skills
Participation in the performing arts at LCIS does more than entertain. Performing on stage fosters confidence, resilience, and self-awareness. Students learn to prioritize, manage time, and collaborate—skills that translate seamlessly into academic and personal success. Raising the Bar
The 2024 winter musical continues our tradition of setting high expectations. Cast and crew began rehearsing in early September, starting with twice-weekly sessions and ramping up as the term progressed. Behind the scenes, countless hours are dedicated to set design, lighting, sound, costumes, and props. Every detail contributes to an unforgettable production.
Mr Brooks, LCIS’s Director of Performing Arts, captures the spirit of the endeavor: “You are the powerhouses on stage. This is your moment to shine.” His words inspire students to push boundaries and own their performances.
The Power of Community
A unique aspect of our productions is the involvement of parents, who play a crucial role in bringing each show to life. From organizing costumes and sewing alterations to managing props and assisting with hair and makeup, their contributions are invaluable.
Ms Hooper, a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) member, reflects, “Being part of something so creative is incredibly rewarding. Watching the students grow from their first rehearsal to opening night is an unforgettable experience.” The PTA’s dedication embodies the vibrant, collaborative spirit of the LCIS community.
