Participation in the performing arts at LCIS does more than entertain. Performing on stage fosters confidence, resilience, and self-awareness. Students learn to prioritize, manage time, and collaborate—skills that translate seamlessly into academic and personal success. Through memorizing lines, mastering choreography, and overcoming stage fright, they build the resilience needed to face challenges head-on.
The 2024 winter musical continues our tradition of setting high expectations. Cast and crew began rehearsing in early September, starting with twice-weekly sessions and ramping up as the term progressed. Behind the scenes, countless hours are dedicated to set design, lighting, sound, costumes, and props. Every detail contributes to an unforgettable production.
Mr Brooks, LCIS’s Director of Performing Arts, captures the spirit of the endeavor: “You are the powerhouses on stage. This is your moment to shine.” His words inspire students to push boundaries and own their performances.
A unique aspect of our productions is the involvement of parents, who play a crucial role in bringing each show to life. From organizing costumes and sewing alterations to managing props and assisting with hair and makeup, their contributions are invaluable.
Ms Hooper, a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) member, reflects, “Being part of something so creative is incredibly rewarding. Watching the students grow from their first rehearsal to opening night is an unforgettable experience.” The PTA’s dedication embodies the vibrant, collaborative spirit of the LCIS community.
As a Juilliard-affiliated school, LCIS integrates world-class performing arts education into our curriculum. This partnership enriches students’ experiences, exposing them to exceptional standards of creativity and discipline. The skills they gain—whether in music, drama, or dance—enhance their academic pursuits and equip them for future challenges.
The learning outcomes of our productions extend well beyond the stage. Students develop oratory skills, time management, self-awareness, and the resilience to navigate setbacks. By working together, they cultivate teamwork, leadership, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. These are the attributes that prepare them for success in university, careers, and life.
“Our talented cast has poured their hearts and souls into this production,” says Mr Brooks. “Their passion will light up the stage.”
Opening night promises to be more than a performance. Guests will enjoy aperitifs before the show and culinary delights from our chef during the interval, making the evening a festive celebration of artistry and community.
The LCIS winter musical is a testament to the transformative power of performing arts. It’s an opportunity for students to shine, for parents to contribute, and for our community to come together in a shared celebration of talent and hard work. This year’s production will not only entertain but also inspire—a perfect culmination to the winter term and a powerful example of how the performing arts drive academic and personal excellence.
