In Primary, students can take French at fluent/bilingual level or at beginner/intermediate level – French A and B respectively. These classes are always at the same time, so if there is need to move into a different level of French, this change can be made immediately to support the progression of the language.
French is taught as a language, but there is also the option for the Topic (geography, history, sciences and art) to be taught in the French language as well. It is for parents to dial up or down the French language exposure for their children to maximise their acquisition and enjoyment. Maths, English, music, sport, drama and PSHE are in English for all students.
At LCIS, we offer German as an extracurricular activity for students in Years 1-3 and Years 4-6, with one hour of class per week. Starting in Year 5, German becomes part of the regular timetable, with two hours weekly in Year 5 and increasing to three hours per week in Year 6. This progression ensures that students gradually build their language skills in a structured way.
In the Primary School, our approach to language instruction is designed to provide a strong foundation that supports students as they advance into the Secondary School. By fostering fluency early on, we help prepare our students for continued success in their language studies, giving them the confidence and ability to excel in both French and German throughout their educational journey.
