Charity and Social Impact at ISM

Charity and Social Impact at ISM - Charity and Social Impact at ISM
This February our attention has turned to the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria and our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of those countries.

The proceeds from our Valentine’s Day and Maslenitsa events will be donated to the disaster emergency appeal. We are in touch with the relevant embassies and consulates, as well as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to ensure that any aid we send is distributed appropriately and fairly.

We are also taking collection of clothing, blankets, sleeping bags and hygiene products, which will be sent to the affected areas.

Valentine’s Day was marked by a number of events, such as a sale of cards, non-uniform day and disco for students from Year Five to Year Nine. Any students wishing to participate in Tuesday’s non-uniform day were kindly requested to make a donation. Tickets for the party were free of charge and treats wereavailable to buy. It was such a relief to see the return of discos to school with children dancing and DJ Langford rocking the room!

On Friday the 17th February we ended the Half-Term by celebrating the onset of Maslenitsa, which traditionally sees off Winter and welcomes in the Lenten period before Easter. Pancakes were sold with various toppings during breaktime.

The generosity of our students has been enormous. Special thanks go to teams of students from various year-groups, representing the Charity Committee (both Primary and Secondary), Student Council and proactive students in general for collecting money, delivering cards, helping out at the disco party and selling pancakes. It was amazing to see them engaged in the marketing, design, planning mathematical and business aspects of charity activities.

ISM demonstrated once again that in any adverse situation the School Community is always ready to do something positive and lend a helping hand.
