ISM Rosinka Book Week 2021: For the Love of Books! ISM Rosinka students have immersed themselves into the written word by each focusing on a class novel that has stimulated their creativity and curiosity. ISM Rosinka students have immersed themselves into the written word by each focusing on a class novel that has stimulated their creativity and curiosity. With books ranging from Roald Dahl classics to new takes on beloved fairytales, such as Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs, a love of books has been easy to inspire.

With it being claimed that “reading is a passport to countless adventures,” ISM Rosinka played welcoming host to a number of famous and awe-inspiring books during this year’s Book Week. A quick parade around the school to survey the immaculate door decorations of each classroom was a subtle clue to the learning that was taking place inside.

To mark the beginning of this special week, each student took the opportunity to add a hint of personality to their uniform by designing and wearing their own Book Week ties, which were adorned with images and quotes from their favourite books. Following this, a range of different activities took place throughout the week, each with the aim of fostering a love of reading, as well as focusing on specific language skills: script writing, storyboards, designing costumes, creating plasticine characters and even painting potatoes! Many students also demonstrated their caring side by donating books to less fortunate children around Russia.

Nevertheless, twice per day, in between the hubbub of conversation among eager learners, came ten minutes of silence and gripping reading during Drop Everything and Read, with Junior English Leaders sounding the signal that it was time to unwind in the company of a new book.

Finally, to crown the week, Thursday marked two special events. First came the opportunity to celebrate our creativity by showcasing the amazing costumes that each student wore to school. Then, it was the teachers’ turn  during each assembly later that day, students used a range of prepared props to add a new twist to their costumes. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t expecting The Big Bad Wolf to look so good in angel wings and a flowery hat!
