Fortunate as we are at The International School of Moscow to be enriched by a wealth of cultures, we seize every opportunity to celebrate and promote our diversity. The annual European Day of Languages, therefore, is always an important date in our calendar.

This year, on Thursday 26th September, the Modern Foreign Languages team on Upper Campus encouraged students to celebrate and extend their language skills whilst broadening their knowledge and appreciation of other cultures.

Many students arrived proudly in their national dress representing countries from all over the world; from modern day American cowboys to girls in the traditional Korean Hanbok, Indian Sari, Russian Sarafan and many more. To start the day, students took part in a variety of games and activities such as general knowledge quizzes and ‘guess the language’. In lessons, students were allocated different European countries to research. They created posters and designed flags which they added to a large banner at the entrance of the school.

Many students brought in their tasty national treats to add to our hugely successful bake sale at breaktime. The donations helped us to raise money for our Charity, Heart for Melissa. At lunchtime, students enjoyed listening to a playlist of their favourite international songs they had chosen earlier in the day.

Thank you to all those who participated and joined us in celebrating the European Day of Languages. We are proud to continually enhance the linguistic diversity of our student body and to reinforce intercultural understanding among our students and staff members.
