At NAIS Pudong, learning takes place beyond the classroom and this week, the Culture and Arts has been very much a focus throughout Primary.
In Early Years, our students have been rehearsing for their performance of ‘Christmas Jukebox’. I was so awestruck with their bravery to perform on a big stage in our Performing Art Centre in front of an audience, especially considering some of our youngest students are only two years old. In the short few months since September, it is evident that not only have they made progress in their personal, social and emotional development but also in their communication and language. We so look forward to our early years performance this coming Tuesday!
In Primary, our Year Five students had the pleasure of a visit from Taiji masters who performed Taiji Kong Fu. Annually, the Pudong Education Commission organises various competitions on topics on Chinese language and culture among the international schools in Pudong every year. This year, the focus is on ‘Pudong Intangible Cultural Heritage Projects’, which aims to encourage foreign students to gain a deeper understanding in local history and culture. Our Mandarin Team chose Taiji reed weaving and ancient ship model making for our Primary students. Following the demonstrations, our students will create either a presentation or record a speech on what they have learned and it will be entered into the competition with the PEC. Good luck to our NAIS students!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Keenan
