AI Revolutionizes education: The end of grading homework, the start of a new era of learning

Message du directeur - Message du directeur

Dear Champiteans,

Artificial Intelligence promises major developments. Like other technological developments, this one is unfolding before our eyes without changing our daily lives all at once, but we can be sure that AI will change our lives over the coming decade.

Professor Michael Gerlich predicts the end of software and apps in favour of a powerful interface with AI. Professions that can be optimised with AI will disappear. It will no longer even be necessary to learn the art of the prompt, because AI will understand our natural language. He urges schools to focus education on purely human skills: emotional intelligence, creativity, critical thinking, interdisciplinarity and so on. We're ready! As soon as universities change their admissions criteria, our schools will be moving in this direction. As for tests of knowledge, it's a safe bet that assignments such as the IB Extended Essay or the Travail de Maturité in Switzerland will give way, because they are too easy to have done by an AI that will soon be able to adopt the personal style of its user. There will be no need to mark homework. Tests will be taken entirely in class, without an internet connection, often as oral exams.

To answer specific questions, students will be able to interrogate their AI interface. On the other hand, in my opinion, human supervision will remain irreplaceable when it comes to putting a topic into context and providing the learner with a mind map. As for corrections, a tedious job, I hope that AI will be able to do this instead of teachers, who will spend more time working with students.
