PANTHER EXPERIENCE OPEN HOUSE
Hello CDS Families!
This week has been an extremely important one here at CDS. First, I would like to congratulate CDS senior, Andrés Macía, for his amazing work in writing, directing, and producing his play, “How to Disappear Completely.” This work of art tackled one of the most difficult, yet relevant topics facing our world today, mental health. Not only did Andrés tackle the subject, but he and his company decided to support local mental health awareness and treatment by donating all proceeds to a local organization to support those community members affected by mental health conditions. Thank you, Andrés, your acting company, your mother, Ms. Lina Restrepo, and Ms. Andrea Aguilar for putting this work of art on in our community.
This week also saw our students in the secondary division take a “Zero Waste” pledge. This pledge, led by the CDS Circular Economy Club and CDS Social Impact Leads, Manuela Peñalosa and Gerardo de Vega, is one that will support efforts to reject, reduce, reuse, recycle, and redesign to have more of a positive impact on our environment. CDS students, in collaboration with Zero Waste Costa Rica and other clubs, conducted an audit of our waste here on campus and measured the amount of waste generated by our community and have set a goal to reduce that amount in the coming year. This work was recognized and highlighted by Nord Anglia in our monthly Connect Ed Newsletter and by our Social Impact Global Leader, Ms. Leslie Williams. Congratulations to all our students and teachers who took the initiative to make this important work a reality here on campus!
Finally, I would like to shout out our library and primary staff for their amazing Book Week activities here on campus. It was fantastic to see all of our students excited about books and reading and to see parents getting involved and coming to read to our youngest learners. There is nothing more important than fostering a love of reading and literacy in our students. Thank you all for putting this amazing event together!
We wish you all a wonderful and safe long weekend.
Best,
Jack Young
Director
