A “Stateless person” is a person not recognized as a citizen by any country.
Stateless people often are not allowed to go to school, see a doctor, get a job, open a bank account, buy a house or even get married.
Today, at least 10 million people around the world are denied a nationality. Stateless people may have difficulty accessing basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment and freedom of movement. Without these things, they can face a lifetime of obstacles and disappointments
It is hard to measure exactly how many children around the world are “stateless”, but UNICEF estimates that, worldwide, a child is born into statelessness every 10 minutes - an estimated 70,000 children are born into statelessness each year.
