We are looking forward to seeing all BVIS parents at this Sunday’s TET Fair 2024.
Personally, this is one of my top highlights of the academic year and I can’t wait to see all the vibrant and colourful decorations, experience the uplifting performances, play traditional Vietnamese games and of course, sample the wonderful array of tasty food from across the country.
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!
Save the Date: Sunday 28th January (8.30am to 1.30pm)
Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents' Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.
Have a lovely weekend ahead and see you at the TET Fair on Sunday!
I can’t wait!
Mrs Mary McAloon, Head of Primary
Throughout the year there are many ways that teachers plan to promote and encourage students’ Vietnamese Perspective. Learning is planned with a view of Vietnam so that Vietnamese perspective is developed implicitly during lessons. As an example, the role play area in Early Years will have signs, labels and objects that relate to Vietnam so that as students are playing, they experience how life is in Vietnam. In primary, the poetry studied in Vietnamese literacy lessons will reference Vietnamese cultures and traditions.
In addition to implicit teaching, explicit activities and events are also planned to support and develop Vietnamese Perspective. Next week is a time of year when teachers plan practical and meaningful activities for students as we lead into our most important celebration of the year – Tet. Some highlights of the upcoming week are experiencing cooking and tasting traditional Vietnamese dishes, exploring customary dress from the different provinces of Vietnam and practicing Vietnamese cultural music and dance. Look out for updates of the week on Class Dojo and the school’s social media channels.
We are so proud of our students for all the donations that they have brought to school over the last two weeks for our community partners. The tradition of giving at this time of year in Vietnam is something that we instil in our students. It is important for our students to develop empathy and understanding of how they can make a difference to others. As students carried their contributions through the school gates and deposited them in the designated boxes, there was a heartwarming feeling all around. All items that have been donated will be carefully sorted and delivered to our four selected community partners before the Tet holiday. They will be gratefully received and will make a huge difference to people’s lives. Thank you for supporting this year’s Tet box collection and a special thanks to Ms Tam Do and the Student Community Leaders for all the hard work behind the scenes in making the programme a success.
