Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.
Dear Parents,
As mentioned to you all in my email on Tuesday 8th April, our school community managed to raise a staggering 122,121,000 VND (over 4,500 USD).
In my previous information to you, all the money raised will be donated to the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal, organised through UNICEF. More information about the Appeal can be found here.
I have shared this great news with Mrs Alison Fox, Principal at our NAE school in Yangon and this is what she has shared with her local community:
It's good news Wednesday!
Our amazing colleagues, students and families over at BVIS Ho Chi Minh City have raised over 4,500 USD (122,121,000 VND) for the UNICEF Myanmar Earthquake Appeal! Truly humbled and grateful for the solidarity and compassion shown by everyone at BVIS HCMC &. @Simon Paul Higham - Principal.
Thank you from us all at BSY!
Recently, our Early Years and Primary students came together to explore the rich cultural diversity of our world with their International Week. In doing so, they embodied and celebrated the core value of “Global Citizenship” – a spirit nurtured every day within the BVIS learning environment.

We were thrilled to welcome Ms. Erin Wright, a talented violist and music educator from The Juilliard School, for a series of engaging sessions designed to spark creativity, enhance communication, and inspire a love for music in our young learners.
Read more about her visit in this post.
Well done to all our Secondary students and staff who took part in last week’s Environmental Week and for the many green themed clothes that were worn on Friday. You really can't stop teachers wanting to get involved too!
Next Thursday, our Year 3 children spend a night in school for their annual sleepover – the first step in our residential programme.
I hope that the children sleep well and that our teachers also manage to get some sleep too!
Finally, a reminder that next week is the final week of this Term with school closing on Friday 18th April at 11.30am.
School re-opens again for Term 3 on Monday 5th May at 8.00am
Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parent's Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.
As always, we wish you a very enjoyable weekend ahead. See you again on Monday!
Our Year 4 students proudly performed the performance of ‘Peter Pan’ on Friday to the whole of primary. The hard work and perseverance paid off with every song being sung with enthusiasm, every line being spoken with confidence and every dance highlighting the students’ skills in movement.
Putting together a performance such as this promotes and supports so many aspects of development for children. Performing in a production develops the courage to speak in front of a large audience, tests a student’s memory as they practice learning their lines and provides an experience of working collaboratively with the whole cast to ensure the timings are perfect and the story being told flows well throughout.
Congratulations and thank you to our Year 4 performers and teaching team – the show was magnificent!
This week Year 1 students welcomed their families into their classrooms to celebrate their learning during their recent Like Ket topic on, ‘Buildings and Structures’. The children had been preparing for this special occasion by bringing in a collection of recycled materials from cardboard boxes to used plastic containers. During the event, children with their families showcased their learning around buildings and structures by creating their own buildings using the recycled materials. This practical activity was an opportunity for children to use and apply the learning that has been in action over the past term.
Thank you to all families who attended this special event. Your support is much appreciated.
On Wednesday our F3 students departed from school with their teachers to visit Kizoona, a unique indoor play centre for early years children. The experience gave students an opportunity to learn and develop in a fun and engaging environment. They explored a variety of play areas, including slides, climbing structures, and ball pits where they could practice their gross motor skills. Other activities allowed the students to express their creativity, learn to problem-solve and initiate social interaction through collaboration and communication. It was rewarding to see our early years students adapt to new routines and make choices independently whilst out on the day trip.

I am often asked by parents about which route is better or potentially viewed more positively by universities across the world. The short answer is they are viewed as equivalents by universities across the world, neither is better or worse, they just prepare students differently. This is true in the USA, Australia, Singapore, Europe and Vietnam.
IBDP has its strength in the breath of its curriculum, with students studying six subjects, three at Standard Level (SL) and three at Higher Level (HL) alongside the IB core. At HL students will study those subjects for 240 hours, whereas SL courses are studied for 150 hours. Totalling 1170 hours of subject instruction over 2 years of study.
A level has its strength in the depth of the subject knowledge students must learn. Students will study three or four subjects, but in each one they will complete 360 hours of studying totalling 1440 hours of subject instruction over 2 years of study for four A levels.
Using Maths as an example. An A level Maths student will have studied 120 hours more subject content compared to an IBDP student who has taken HL Maths. However, they will not have as broad a base of knowledge in other subject areas compared to an IBDP student.
Both pathways create students that are ready for the world and ready to succeed at university.
The annual BVIS 6-6 Reading Challenge has come to an inspiring end, marking our most successful year yet! Students embraced the challenge of reading six books in six months, selecting from 12 diverse categories.
With over 1000 books read across the school, student and staff dedication to reading has been incredible. Well done to all the teachers and students who completed the challenge—an amazing achievement that showcases our school’s love for literature and learning.
We can't wait to start it again next year and hope that both parents and families will also join in with the fun!
