Summer School 2023 - Week 1 - On Land (26 - 30/06/2023)

First day at Summer School 2023

Today was the first day of our BVIS Summer School, and it was wonderful to see so many students and families coming to join our orientation this morning. Students collected their welcome packs and T-Shirts, before meeting their new teachers and going to classes.

Following the theme of ‘Our Planet’, week 1 of summer school is focused on exploring life on land. Students developed their ICT skills in ‘The Tigers’ class to develop research presentations, while our EYFS students enjoyed Indoor Hockey with Mr Steve in PE class. A very busy and exciting first day for all classes!

Our students attending Summer School had a fantastic time learning all about innovative technologies with our visiting teachers from Snapology.

The Water Buffalo class spent time learning about robotics and building robots with moving parts, while the Moonbear class explored engineering and building structures. F1 and F3 experimented with being Junior Scientists to develop their understanding of basic robotics and how it can link to the Animal Kingdom. 

Students have also been enjoying learning some cooking skills, with everyone able to enjoy chocolate and fruit pancakes made by our class 1 and 2 students yesterday.

Our Water Buffalo class had an amazing time working with Snapology to learn about drone technology and had to try to complete a very challenging drone obstacle course, the ‘Cheeky Monkeys’ class tried creating and solving escape rooms, while ‘The Roaring Lions’ took part in an ‘Amazing Race’, while learning about robotics and coding.  

To end the amazing first week, we all went the theatre to watch an animated film with a strong environmental message, ‘The Lorax’, and enjoy some popcorn for a Friday afternoon treat.
