The "World's Best School Awards” honour schools that make a difference in the quality of teaching and have a positive impact on students, the community, and society. The award is presented by T4 Education in collaboration with Accenture and American Express.
Our unique pedagogy to deliver one curriculum in two languages has helped BVIS HCMC become one of the ten nominated schools out of thousands of applications from across the globe for this year's award.
Over the last 10 years, BVIS has pioneered a unique bilingual phonics programme teaching Vietnamese and English phonics using one single approach in our EYFS and Primary. The programme is called ‘Learn One, Know Two’. This bilingual programme that is only available at BVIS HCMC, helps foster the ability for students to seamlessly switch between the two languages, creating a favorable foundation for students to progress to the international IGCSE and A Level programmes at the Secondary level.
During the comprehensive reaccreditation visit in January 2023, the representatives from the Council of International Schools (CIS) noted, "The structure and implementation of the bilingual program is impressive."
Mr Simon Higham, BVIS’s Principal said, “Strong schools are those that have continuous improvement at the heart of their culture, to ensure that all stakeholders thrive and flourish academically, socially and emotionally to the best of their individual abilities.
BVIS HCMC is proud of its students, staff and wider community, in becoming a Top 10 School.
Being shortlisted acknowledges over 10 years of hard work, commitment and passion to develop a unique pedagogy that celebrates the difference that true bilingualism brings, whilst supporting the development of confident, independent and happy global citizens who maintain a pride and sense of belonging towards their national culture, heritage, traditions and language.”
At BVIS, we recognise the significance of UNICEF's Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasises "Quality Education" and aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education whilst also promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. In line with this goal, the school actively engages in developing and strengthening social projects in collaboration with community partners, including the initiative called "Spreading Love through Books". This is a long-term project initiated and implemented by Year 5 students at BVIS to develop a reading culture at a Primary school in the Mekong Delta. In addition to the goal of inspiring local students to love reading, the project provides an opportunity for BVIS students to use their bilingual abilities to read books to friends at community partner schools. This closely aligns with the project's initial goal of "Learning One, Knowing Two."
Information about the school winning the World's Best School for Innovation award will be officially announced early next academic year. If successful, BVIS will use the prize money to support the aforementioned community initiative.
The nomination affirms the outstanding quality of educational programmes that BVIS offers and reinforces BVIS's position as the leading bilingual international school in Vietnam. The school takes great pride in this achievement and remains committed to providing exceptional educational experiences for every one of its students.
