Our Alumni from all over the world have inspirational stories to share. You’ll also learn how their exciting experiences and unique opportunities at BVIS and abroad have influenced their passion, career goals and personal lives.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Honours degree from Monash University (ranked #57 in the world according to QS Ranking 2023), Phuong Uyen, a member of the BVIS Class of 2017, is currently working as a Junior Software Engineer at Liftango, Australia.
During her time at BVIS, Phuong Uyen achieved outstanding academic results, with four A* in her chosen subjects: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Her A Level results in Physics, Biology and Chemistry were the highest across our school. Additionally, she also gained the highest marks across the whole of Vietnam for Physics and Chemistry in the AS and A Level exams from the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE).
With a personal profile full of academic advantages as well as extracurricular activities, Phuong Uyen has earned one of only four International Leadership Scholarships for Software Engineering at Monash University.
In the first two years of university in 2019 and 2020, Phuong Uyen was named on the Dean's List, which recognises outstanding academic achievement. After that, she completed her Bachelor's degree program with a near-perfect graduation score of 3.9/4.0.
Phuong Uyen had many exciting exchange experiences while studying abroad in a culturally diverse country like Australia. At Monash, she actively connected with a dynamic network of international students and participated in various group projects to accumulate many useful experiences and skills before officially embarking on her career path.
Phuong Uyen shared that one of the reasons that she was able to confidently pursue a career in technology was the career guidance she had received at BVIS since the early stages of Secondary. The teachers inspired and motivated Phuong Uyen through their advice and the combination of A Level subjects available allowed her to fulfil her future study and career aspirations.
"My initial plan was to follow my family's career path and study Pharmacy. Thanks to the inspiration and encouragement of BVIS teachers and extracurricular activities at school, specifically the Programming Club, I discovered my passion and inclination towards technology and confidently pursued this field of study," Phuong Uyen said.
She also emphasised that thanks to the learning methods and critical thinking skills she acquired at BVIS, she did not encounter many obstacles when studying and working in an international environment.
"BVIS not only provides knowledge and important skills to prepare for the future, but it is also a place that brings many beautiful memories for me," Phuong Uyen shared.
Once again, thank you to Uyen for this inspiring story you brought to our school community. We wish you continued success on your path ahead!
