Mr. Simon Higham, Principal
Dear Parents
At BVIS, we value and celebrate our Vietnamese heritage and culture across our whole school community. Since returning to school after the recent Term 1 break, we have achieved so much in a short period of time including: EYFS performances, Primary parent workshops, a full programme of highly successful Secondary residential trips and mock examinations for our Year 11, 12 and 13 students.
One of our main focuses though has been Tet and we hope that you have enjoyed the following events that have helped to begin the New Year celebrations.
Attended by over 1,000 parents, students, teachers and friends of BVIS, this year’s Tet Festival celebrated the different traditions, cultures and food from across northern, central and southern Vietnam.
Our thanks to everyone who came along to celebrate with us to enjoy one of the annual highlights of the school calendar.
On Thursday 12th and Friday 13th January, our very youngest children celebrated Tet in their own unique way, through traditional songs and dances from across Vietnam. With children aged between 2 and 5 years old, this event was truly a special moment in time for everyone involved.
Under the guidance of our Vietnamese teaching department, Secondary students took part in an incredible Tet performance, again with a northern, central and southern Vietnamese perspective. The audience was made up of our Year 4 to 13 students with parents also attending.
Over the past weeks, we asked our BVIS community to come together and bring in donations for our community partners.
We have been astounded by the contributions from our students and their families. These included:
The donations of clothing also surpassed our expectations with dozens of boxes full of high-quality clothing.
We have begun to distribute these donations to our community partners, which include:
The spirit of Tet is extremely strong across our community and we would like to thank everyone who has donated items to this year’s collection, attended one or more of our school events and those who continue to support the partnership between home and school to celebrate our unique Vietnamese culture.
On behalf of everyone at BVIS, I would like to wish you a very peaceful and prosperous New Year and look forward to working alongside you further as we enter into the Year of the Cat 2023.
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!
