A very warm welcome back and I hope you all had a relaxing and happy half term break. We are pleased to be back and have a very full schedule ahead for term 1B.
It was a very exciting start to the week as we sent nearly 400 students off on their residential trips. Year 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and Year 10 all participated in residential trips this week.
As you can imagine this was an enormous task and I know you will join me in thanking all the staff who gave up their time to accompany the students and all the staff at school who supported in setting up the trips.
One of the advantages of being part of NAE is that our staff get regular updates and access to the latest educational thinking from around the world. This helps our staff to further improve the learning and teaching opportunities for your children. We have copied a link here to such materials that are regularly circulated – INSIGHTS - the NAE digital magazine. At this stage we only have versions in English, but we are sharing with you anyway for your interest. Check out HERE!
A reminder that we will be hosting our 10 Years Anniversary celebration on Saturday November 25th and formal invites will be on their way to you.
Sunday next week (November 5), BritCham Fun Run 2023 will take place at BUV, Eco Park. We will deliver running packages to registered families through students next week. We will keep you updated on this matter.
We are grateful to have many BVIS families signed up for Fun Run. To show our grattitude, we will have special gifts which will be fresh coconuts to give to each member of BVIS Hanoi at the event.
The BVIS Early Years Stay and Play sessions have already begun and this parent collaboration is an integral part of the BVIS home school partnership. Our Stay and Play programme not only celebrates what the children learn but also demonstrates how they learn. This week, we shared with the F1 parents the qualities we want our children to have as successful adults and lifelong learners. In Early Years, we believe that your children are already on this journey and are developing those very special skills and traits: bravery, independence, resilience, curiosity, communication, creativity, physical ability, happiness and kindness to name but a few.
This term the children in Year 1 will focus on the same story in both English and Vietnamese. After returning to school on Monday, the children were shocked to find toys stuck in the classroom tree. This made the children excited and motivated them to design their favourite toy before using clay to create it. This is an important task for the children to undertake as it helps connect their imagination and enhances development.
Year 2 were excited and shocked to see that their classroom had been destroyed. They used their enquiry skills becoming detectives to find out what had happened and who had caused this mess! After finding straw, cracked eggshells and animal footprints, they guessed it was farmyard animals who caused the mess – and they were right! In fact, it was Farmer Duck and his animal friends. This created much excitement when they began to learn a new story ‘Farmer Duck’ as part of their ‘Traditional Tales’ unit of learning.
Both children and parents had their senses stimulated and brain power tested during the Year 2 Entry Point for our new IPC topic ‘Super Humans’. The children showed great enquiry and teamwork. Thank you to parents for joining us – it was a very memorable experience for all!
Year 3 are learning about the portal story “Khánh Ly và những chú khủng long”- which the main character, Khánh Ly finds a magical portal that transports her to a new world. They made dinosaur models, and named and described them.
On Wednesday morning, we waved goodbye to the children from years 4, 5 and 6, who set out on their residential trips. These trips in upper primary offer immense value to students. They provide a unique opportunity for personal growth, fostering independence, teamwork, and resilience. Exploring new environments and engaging in outdoor activities promote experiential learning, cultural awareness, and social skills. These experiences create lasting memories and enhance overall educational development. Here are a few of the first photos they shared.
To start the topic ‘Making the News’, Year 6 had a sharing session with a parent guest-speaker from VTV Television. The sharing session was extremely useful about the work of journalists, the journalism process, and the history of journalism. The children were very excited and showed their passion through interesting questions.
Fobisia International Coding Competition Run by The British School of Phuket
Our students took part in an international code breaking competition involving 72 international schools.
I am delighted to announce that over 200 of our students successfully advanced beyond the first level with several managing to break the ultimate challenge of level 4.
Our highest ranking of 5th was at level 1B. Level 4, the ultimate challenge is incredibly difficult. A few of our students managed to break this code enabling us to be placed 14th at level 4.
Congratulations to all students and staff who got involved.
Students in years 12 and 13 took part in the UKMT maths challenge. They have been studying hard in the ECA and we look forward to seeing how they have done in the next few weeks when the results are published, well done all that took part!
Our Year 11 students have taken the initiative to create a student-led maths support program, providing tutoring and mentoring to their peers. This program offers assistance in various math topics, fostering collaboration and problem-solving skills. We commend these exceptional students for their innovation and dedication in creating a supportive community. We are working with our students to nurture a culture of student-driven initiatives and academic growth.
