Community Service – Remembrance

Community Service – Remembrance We have had some very special guests visiting BVIS this week from the British Embassy.

We have had some very special guests visiting BVIS this week from the British Embassy.

Here at the British Vietnamese International School as part of our community service program we have been learning about Remembrance Day.  Giving our students the time to REFLECT, helping them to learn about RESPECT and to show that they CARE as GLOBAL CITIZENS.  All these qualities are found in the Aide Memoire and what we expect our students to achieve.

It was wonderful to see the defence attaché Group Captain Tim Below and Staff Sergeant Rab Durrant take time out of their very busy schedule to visit BVIS this week.

On Monday they visited the year 5&6 primary children and had fun exercising in the Gymnasium before learning more about the poppy.

We also spoke with our year 8 students in secondary to explain why we have a remembrance day and why it is in November and how Vietnam celebrates something similar in July.

On Friday morning all the secondary students attended a special assembly which included sound effects, lighting, music and songs helping raise awareness to help us remember that war is a terrible thing and we should always look for peaceful solutions.

I would like to thank everyone involved in making this Poppy Appeal a very special occasion.  Thank you to the teaching assistants and children in primary who have made so many poppies for the displays, thank you to the art, history, music and IT departments for all their help with raising awareness and in assembly.  Thank you to everyone involved in the assembly itself.  Of course a very special thank to the year 8 students who will be running the appeal. Anyone wishing to make a donation (minimum 50,000 VND) can get a poppy at lunchtime from one of our year 8 students outside the Auditorium/Dining Hall.
