BST Chess Tournament: A Celebration of Chess and Charity

Chess

In November 2024, The British School of Tashkent proudly hosted its annual Charity Chess Tournament, welcoming around 100 talented young players, aged 7 to 16, from schools all across Tashkent and the Fergana region.

Launched in 2021, this annual event has become a highlight of our school calendar. With all participation fees donated to charity, it continues to combine a passion for chess with a commitment to giving back to the community.

SUPPORTING A NEW GENERATION OF CHESS PLAYERS

Chess holds a special place in Uzbekistan, a country renowned for its rich chess culture and growing number of talented players. Indeed, the country’s reputation on the global chess stage skyrocketed in 2022 when its national team, led by teenage Grandmasters Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javokhir Sindarov, won the gold medal at the Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India.

Today, a new generation of players is thriving across the country. And at The British School of Tashkent, many of our students play chess as part of our wide variety of after-school clubs outside the classroom. These enrichment activities make a big contribution to our students’ personal and academic growth, enabling them to pursue their passions and explore new interests.

A CELEBRATION OF CHESS AND CHARITY

Thank you to all the students, staff, and volunteers who contributed to the incredible success of this event. We are especially grateful to Concept Catering for their generous sponsorship, providing food and prizes for the winners, which helped raise over US$1000 for Ezgu Amal. Our thanks also extends to Central Chess for their expert management of the competition.
