After almost 18 months of working together, there are some things we all know about Mr Aziz. He is an exceptional multitasker, versatile, diligent, liked and trusted by students, staff and parents and probably the most connected Marketer in Tashkent. Should anyone want to bribe him then head to the nearest KFC – we’ve never met anyone so passionate about Colonel Sanders’ products.
As he has always loved digital marketing, data, underlying infrastructure and processes, it was natural that Mr Aziz be promoted to IT Manager. As he leaves the MAC Team we realised there are many things we don’t know about him. Therefore, he was interviewed and it was like prying open an oyster – extremely hard work but once accomplished there were some pearls inside.
Mr Aziz was born in Tashkent and has always lived here with his parents, younger brother Oybek and maternal grandmother. As the eldest in the family and the eldest cousin amongst his extended family, he was always responsible, hardworking and curious. He liked to try new things and explore - whether that was the latest Lego set, camera or Packard Bell computer. He had great fun putting together, taking apart and then reassembling computers and still enjoys exploring the latest technology. Mr Aziz is also a keen traveler, hiker, photographer and fan of Star Wars. He enjoyed watching Hollywood movies with family friends in his youth. Hence, as well as Uzbek and Russian he picked up English quickly and spoke with an American accent resulting in the nickname – Aziz Yankee.
In 2011, Mr Aziz being an early adopter, decided to explore the growing field of data manipulation and management through a Bachelors in Business Information Systems at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). At about the same time he started working as a HR and Marketing Intern at BST. In 2014, he was promoted to IT Coordinator but was also responsible for managing the front desk, procurement and marketing. In 2016, due to his growing fascination with digital marketing, SMM and content, he officially became a Marketing Coordinator. Then in 2017, he was encouraged to broaden his horizons and undertook a Masters in International Business Management at WIUT and continued to progress as the backbone of BST. Mr Aziz, is the nice guy quietly working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly, and everyone looks good. Therefore, he hardly takes any holidays and is on call even when sick. However, his efforts do not go unnoticed and this is why everyone from the cleaners and handymen at BST to Nord Anglia regional heads are his friends.
Over the last 10 years at BST, Mr Aziz has seen the school grow and develop. Every year has brought new challenges and colleagues to Tashkent and been a learning experience. Mr Aziz enjoys working in the fast-paced environment of the school with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and talents. He has also enjoyed meeting the many wonderful guests at the school from Olympiads, Ambassadors to an Uzbek FIFA arbiter. However, the highlight has been the ethos of “development” – student and staff development is pivotal at BST and Mr Aziz’s journey so far from Intern, to IT, Marketing and now a more strategic role in IT is an excellent example of that.
Our nickname for Mr Aziz is Mr Farosat – it's an Arabic word, and means the common rules of living, of etiquette, of goodness. The closest English word is 'consideration'. However, a better translation from Mr Aziz is “anticipating the result of your actions and words with the common good in mind”. Mr Aziz always behaves with Farosat and I’m sure his emotional intelligence and aptitude will secure him a place at the top table within Nord Anglia in the near future. In the meantime, if you see him on campus please congratulate him on his new role as IT Superstar!
