Hero Story - Librarian

If you enjoy reading books, love talking to people, being a librarian is the perfect choice for you

A good librarian needs a variety of skills, and the right attitude to work. I believe to be a good librarian you should like books, children, look forward to serving readers and making the library a great place for everyone. I find being a Librarian lots of fun. Sure, some tasks are repetitive, but every student is unique, there are new books/resources to categorize, and some new challenge always pops up. Whether a job is repetitive or not is always a question of perspective–and you have the right perspective, don’t you? I plan to organize various events for primary and secondary students (such as reader-writer meetings), seminars in the library, and do other things that will improve the experience for the students of the library, and bring creativity to my job. If you work in a library, you should combine multitask as a library technician or administrator. As a technician, work will mostly be about acquisitions and cataloguing, acquiring, preparing, and classifying materials, so readers can find them easily. As an administrator, you’ll take care of negotiating contracts for services, materials, and equipment, you’ll supervise library employees, perform public relations and fundraising duties. 
As a child my mother recommended me to read one book. The book was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. When I read it I was so impressed with the characters. I remember how in my imagination, I saw all the curtains, carpets and characters and that novel helped me to love books. At BST we want the library to be a place where students can come and read, rest and enjoy reflecting on what they discover. We always look forward to seeing our readers in our library!

Typical day

8:00 – Students start arriving in the library. Many of our students prefer to utilize the library on the mornings
9-10am Read, file, and respond to emails. 

10am-12am Library lessons start. Every year group has their own time slot where they can come read and exchange books.

12-1pm Lunch time 

1-3:30pm   Library time. Year 12-13 students prefer to come to the library to do their research and to prepare for exams.

1:45-2:30pm Check email; SOME volunteer students come to the library to help and support the primary students. They can read stories and discuss them with the students.

3:30-4:30pm Office hours in the library. Help students with questions and research topics

4:30pm Drive home and think about how lucky I am to work at a library!
