Reading is an essential part in education. It helps to expand vocabulary, increases attention, and develops analytical thinking.
Every child learns and processes information differently. This means that some children may have a natural love of reading, and some may struggle before each reading time.
If the latter sounds like your child, don’t worry. Here are our strategies to help your child fall in love with reading without stress.
1. Create a family reading time.
Your child needs to feel support. Create a time for reading together. Choose different types of books. Be an example for your child, you may need to read more than them, but this is temporary until your child develops a desire to read for themselves.
2. Find a genre.
During self - isolation and spending time at home there is no need to read just nonfiction books. Ask your child about their preference. Read different genres together that may attract or excite your child.
3. Give a short review of the book.
Motivate your child by giving short descriptions about the book. If your child finds it interesting they will read and you will find them reading in every corner of the house without a prompt from you.
4. Sharing opinions after reading.
If you decide to read with your child, remember to share what you read. It helps your child to pay much more attention to what he/she reads.
5. Create a mini library at home.
Create a library zone at home. It will help your child to remember that there is always something interesting to read and they can read their favorite books more than once.
We hope these tips get your child interested in reading. If you have any particular questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
