Early Years and Primary Students enjoyed Art Week

Last week was BSN Primary school Art Week. Students from every year group as well as the Early Years spent time learning all about endangered animals and what extinct means.

From the North Pole to the South, the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the ocean, the children embraced this crucially important subject. They have not only thought about why animals all over the world are endangered, but also what we can do to change our and their futures for the better.

There has been brilliant 2D and 3D work from every single child, which we are proud to display in the Atrium to enthrall children, adults, and visitors.

The subject of endangered animals is a serious one. Bringing this subject to Arts Week has helped children to understand just how important it is to look after our planet and the animals that live here: harmoniously, ethically, and sustainably for everyone and all our futures.

During Art Week, Nursery have travelled around the islands of Oceania. From Fiji to New Zealand, Guam to Australia, they have enjoyed using different textures, painting onto paper towels to create Forest Ringlet butterflies and using feathers when creating the Guam Micronesian kingfisher. They had their feet painted to create iguanas out of our footprints. As well as using a variety of skills to represent koalas using a range of media, finger painting, paper plates, cotton wool and felt ears.

Reception studied about the endangered animals in Africa this week during art week. They concentrated on the African wild dog and the Eastern Black rhino. They fashioned African Wild Dogs out of natural objects like pebbles, pinecones, seeds, etc., and Eastern Black Rhinos out of objects from their classrooms and houses.

In Class 4A, students teamed up to create five awesome movies about the Arctic and how it's changing because of global warming. They explored different issues, like melting ice and animals losing their homes. Each group worked together to come up with characters, backgrounds, and stories from scratch. By collaborating and using their creativity, they hoped to show everyone why it's crucial to protect our planet.

Year 5B students have been learning about endangered marine animals and how we can protect them. They have created different stained-glass portraits, using the techniques medieval stained-glass artists, of specific endangered animals to draw attention to their plight.
