Let's Rock!

Let's Rock! - Lets Rock
Let's Rock!
This week saw BSKL really rocking out with FOBISIA Battle of the Bands at Nexus school taking place at the weekend and our own in house band night on Wednesday.
Back in November 106 bands from across South East Asia submitted entries into the FOBISIA battle of the bands competition. These were whittled down to 42 finalists who were invited to compete at Nexus School, we were lucky enough to have a group from both KS3 and KS4 invited to compete.

The bands were invited to a two day workshop where they took part in a whole host of activities from songwriting to stage presence, band choreography to beat boxing, where they made lots of new friends from other schools.

Seb Just Sneezed from years 8 and 9 and MOG Band from year 10 rocked out to compete with bands from Laos, China, The Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

They took to the stage in front of Roo Pigott's internationally renowned tech entrepreneur and music producer, Brandon Freisen; Grammy nominated, multi-Juno award winning music producer, songwriter, television producer, and artist, Isaac Miranda;Music producer for ONErpm, Youtube's fifth largest global partner, with over 20 billion views every month; West End star Noel Sullivan and superstar choreographer, responsible for the Elton John movie and the UK's Strictly Come Dancing, James Bennett.

The judges placed the bands into three groups Bronze, Silver and Gold and then picked the top three from the gold category. Seb just Sneezed were fantastic and were placed in the Silver band. We were then delighted that MOG band were placed in the Gold category before coming out with the overall 3rd position prize! We're so proud of all of the students involved. The competition was fierce.

Not wanting our other bands to miss out on the excitement Mr Fadley and Mr Aidil organised our 3rd band night to be held in the school theatre on Wednesday. 9 bands from year 4 all the way to year 12 performed to a packed audience. Seb just Sneezed closed with a headlining set their new confidence and polished stage presence fresh from the weekend.

We will hold another band night in June and hope that other students who play guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or sing would like to join in. More info to come if you child is interested.

Hope to see you there.
