The day began with a short tour of the secondary school, led by Merjaan and Andrea (Y12), who represented the student body. Their role as guides set the tone for the day, providing TFM participants with valuable insight into our school’s culture and student leadership.
Following the tour, the morning featured classroom observation sessions led by our dedicated teaching staff. Special thanks go to Ms. Russol, Ms. Humphrey, Ms. Twiney, Ms. Park, Mr. Green, Mr. Chauhan, Mr. Gothard, Ms. Munday, and Ms. Goh, who facilitated these observations. The sessions were followed by a debrief where educators and TFM Fellows engaged in discussions on best practices, focusing on creating more inclusive and student-centered classrooms.
Later, Mr. Milliner delivered a standout workshop that showcased our school’s world-class model for student voice. Through this session, students were empowered to envision how their voices can shape not only their learning experiences but also their futures.
Our Leaders for Change students—Andrea (Y12), Merjaan (Y12), Chaebin (Y11), Amelia (Y11), Anishka (Y11), Viktor (Y10), and Hao Zheng (Y10)—played an instrumental role throughout the day, demonstrating through discussions and actions what student voice looks like in our school. Their leadership and engagement made a strong impact on the TFM participants, who praised their contributions.
This collaborative training day was a significant step in strengthening student engagement, and we are proud to have created a space where students, teachers, and the TFM team could come together to share ideas. We look forward to continuing this important work to ensure that student voices remain central to our school’s vision for the future of education. Student Voices is a central pillar of the Leaders for Change Vision, please find below the experience of Merjaan and Andrea and their interaction with the TFM fellows.
"It allowed us to reflect on student life at BSKL and provided a unique opportunity to interact with educators as colleagues rather than traditional teachers. With these dynamic conversations about our own student voice, school facilities and procedures allowing them to add on about their own experiences and stories. Their dedication to travel for long hours just to provide the best for their students was genuinely inspiring."

"Personally I was nervous before the TFM, I was afraid I would not be able to answer any of their questions and would freeze up. However when the questions start pouring in, answering the questions seemed like a piece of cake, guiding them through the school was easier than I thought. This experience thought me to think critically and also to be communicative and understanding towards the teachers from all over Malaysia. I enjoyed the experience and would hope to lead to change again."

Our collaboration with Teach For Malaysia is going from strength to strength and we are very proud to host their student Summit on the Saturday 23rd of November. This will see 250+ students from all over Malaysia coming together to discuss quality education. More from me on this soon.
