Year 11 student wins gold and establishes two new records at MSSS 2024
Based on their exceptional performances at the district track and field championships (MSSD) held in August, Sasha Year 11 and Zac Year 9 were picked to represent the Petaling Utama district at the recently held Selangor State Athletics championship (MSSS).

Top athletes from the 10 districts of Selangor, competed at this meet to earn a place in the state team for the National Athletics Championship (MSSM) to be held in October this year.

Sasha won her first gold in the P1 (under 18 girls) Javelin event with a throw of 36.51 metres, and was the first to break a state record in the meet. She surpassed the previous record of 33.91 metres which was set in 2017.

She won her second gold in the P1 (under 18 girls) discus event where she beat the current record holder and set a new record in a fiercely fought final. The win was extra special for Sasha as she not only broke the record but became the first ever Selangor athlete to throw over 40 meters in the girls under 18 discus event at MSSS. Her throw of 40.32 metres eclipsed the previous record of 37.46 which was set by the athlete who came second to her at this meet.

Sasha’s exceptional performance at this meet has earned her a place in the Selangor state team which will compete at next month’s national championships (MSSM) in Perak.

Zac who is only 13 was selected to represent the district in the Javelin, Discus and Shot Put events in the L3 category (Boys aged 13 to 15 years). He fought extremely hard in a field that had only 7 thirteen year olds amongst the 43 athletes competing across all three throws. In spite of being amongst the youngest in the competition, Zac did incredibly well and is now ranked in the top ten for javelin and shot put, and in top 15 for discus for boys aged 13 to 15 years in the state of Selangor.

Sasha and Zac continue to make us proud with their elite level performances in athletics and we wish Sasha all the very best as she represents Selangor at MSSM next month.
