BSKL’s Sasha Shines at SUKMA 2024: Selangor’s youngest Track and Field Athlete Secures Bronze in Discus
Sasha Year 11 became the first female BSKL student to be selected to represent Selangor at this year’s Malaysian Under 21 Games - SUKMA 2024. At just 15 years old, Sasha was one of the youngest Track and Field athletes at the games, which were held in Sarawak from August 17 to August 24 this week. She competed in the discus and javelin events.
A rising star from BSKL, Sasha showcased her exceptional talent in both the Discus and Javelin events where she faced some of the most formidable competitors in the country. Sasha demonstrated remarkable poise and determination, whilst competing against seasoned state and national-level athletes.

Sasha’s hard work and dedication paid off when she secured a Bronze medal in the Discus event, missing the gold medal by a mere 88cm, a truly outstanding achievement for her first appearance at SUKMA. In Javelin, she continued to impress, earning a commendable fifth-place finish. Sasha’s performance is a testament to her potential and promise in the world of athletics, marking her as one to watch in the coming years. As a result of her achievements at SUKMA, Sasha is now the third best discus thrower and amongst the top 5 javelin throwers in Malaysia for under 21 female athletes as well as the best under 21 javelin and discus thrower for the state of Selangor.

The SUKMA Games, held every two years, are a prestigious national-level event where young athletes from across Malaysia compete in multiple sports disciplines, representing their respective states. This year’s games featured over 37 disciplines, including Track and Field, Football, Swimming, Archery, Basketball, Cycling, Taekwondo, and Tennis, among others.

For many young athletes in Malaysia, participating in the SUKMA Games is a dream, as it is seen as a stepping stone to representing the country in the future. It fills us with immense pride to see one of our own students achieve this milestone.

Sasha’s athletics journey from winning her first sports day medal at BSKL to winning a medal at the national level SUKMA Games has been remarkable for both her and the school. This is BSKL’s first ever medal at the SUKMA games and we wish Sasha all the best as she continues to excel in Track and Field, and we look forward to celebrating her future successes at these games and beyond!
