BSKL celebrates excellence at Empowered to Succeed awards evening

These awards celebrate the achievements of BSKL students who have represented the school in local, regional and global events. Many BSKL student musicians performed for the audience, showcasing their talent, passion, and commitment to their art.

Our school leadership team was on hand to celebrate with our students and families. Dr Brown opened the evening with some poignant and inspirational words that are worth repeating:

'Every community needs role models, even a community as high achieving as BSKL. These awards are designed to celebrate our role models. These awards are about inspiration and self-belief. Ultimately, they are about hope.

Those of you who try out or audition are surely the most hopeful among us. You dream big, and more importantly, you fight. You fight on the inside when things get tough, finding the energy and time to train and practice. Because the world isn’t going to make way for you—and you wouldn't want it to. You thrive on the challenge and the satisfaction of knowing you triumphed through your own efforts. You don’t want it easy; you want to win fair and square. Triumph is meaningless if it is not achieved honourably.

What it means is that you inspire hope in those around you because you have a talent and you are driven to succeed. You give others something to hold onto when their lives get tough.

That’s called inspiration. It’s hope.'

Amongst an already exceptional list of students who were invited to attend, we saw students in 4 categories recognised for their outstanding contributions to BSKL. The categories were Sports, Music, Drama, and Community Engagement.

The overall feeling around the room from our students was one of excitement and pride. Probably the best thing about the evening was the cheering, support, and well-wishes of all students for each nominee and winner. That sentiment embodied the ethos of the evening, and I was incredibly proud of every one of our fabulous students.
