In line with BSKL's focus on important transition points and pathways through our school, we were really pleased to organise a recent session for Year 6 students on the 13th March.
The activity, part of our Year 6 to Year 7 transition process, saw secondary students visiting Year 6 classes to share insights and answer questions about moving up to secondary school.
During the morning, our secondary ambassadors went into the Year 6 classrooms and presented on typical worries and questions related to secondary. This was followed by Q&A sessions in smaller group, ensuring that all students had a chance to ask whatever they needed. The Year 6 students engaged actively, asking thoughtful questions and expressing their thoughts with confidence.
It was also really encouraging to see our secondary students sharing their experiences confidently, acting as excellent role models for their younger peers. As a result of their effort, the outcome was very positive, with the Year 6 students feeling more informed and looking forward to starting Year 7 in August.
This activity is one part of the broader transition process, which also includes a campus tour, having English lessons in the secondary library, and two transition days during which the Year 6s get to try out being secondary students. This process is designed to make the move from primary to secondary a comfortable and positive experience for all involved.
Thank you to all the secondary students who gave up their time and to the Year 6 teachers who help facilitate the activity.
