U18 FOBISIA Netball

 U18 FOBISIA Netball - U18 FOBISIA Netball
U18 FOBISIA Netball

Alice Smith welcomed this year's U18’s FOBISIA NETBALL on 18th and 19th November 2023. They hosted 177 participants from 15 schools, forming 16 teams from across Asia; (Bangkok, Singapore and Malaysia).

This year was the first year that BSKL entered a Netball team, the team players were Mia, Kayla, Aurelia, Eva, Emma, Xin Jo, Eleanor, Yannis, Sarah, Hawa and Kate.

Our first game was a loss BSKL 4-6 HELP but a really close game with the girls playing exceptionally well. Our second game was an extremely fast and furious game against POWIIS 8-7 BSKL.

Our 3rd game against KLASS which was an even faster skilful game with a really quick turn around, KLASS 15-6 BSKL. We then played Tanglin Trust Singapore which were the competition's favorites - they were looking likely to be possible finalists. That was a very accurate game with short passes, with key movement patterns down the court. We defended really well, applying key defensive principles that we had practiced in training, the end result was Tanglin 11-2 BSKL. Our girls put up a tough fight and were needing a win for our last game, to heighten spirits. We eventually won our final match of the day BSKL 15 - 1 Crescendo, a great win and a much needed morale boost!

After all of the first day's games we changed into our evening attire “Bond Girls” and got ready for the movie themed GALA dinner. The girls all came together and ‘bonded’, all teams mixing together and having lots of fun. What a great first day of the Tournament.

Day 2  -The teams were divided to play for the FOBISIA Cup or FOBISIA Plate.

Our first game was against our ‘Closest of rivals’ GIS -  The girls stepped onto the court with a very positive mind set, they were going to win. The game was electric, the willingness and the determination was formidable! The whistle blew with a win BSKL-10 7 GIS!! The girls were tired but elated!! The next game meant that we had to have a rematch against POWIIS!! We went in strong from the first whistle and beat them with a BSKL 7- 4 POWIIS.

The winning streak on the second day meant that we got to play in the Plate Final against KTJ. Unfortunately, they were the stronger team and beat BSKL taking the plate with them!!

Ms Whittall and I are extremely proud of the girls' conduct, play, integrity, grit and determination on and off the court and where they finally placed was a great achievement for them.

The MVP - Most valuable player for BSKL U18’s Team went to Mia, Year 13.

Well Done to you all!!

Mrs Sackley and Ms Whittall.
