Juilliard Visit

Juilliard Visit - Juilliard Visit
Juilliard Visit
Last week, 15 delegates arrived from Performing Arts Departments across the NAE South East Asia schools to take part in training with Juilliard professionals.

Director of Dance Hilary Easton, Drama Curriculum Specialist Nick Mahmat and Music Specialist and Senior Director of Education Richard Mannoia worked with the delegates for three days training them in the Juilliard teaching approach.

On Friday several BSKL classes were chosen to take part in demonstration lessons by these experts: 7C had their regular scheduled Drama lesson with Nick, 7E took their Music lesson with Richard and 7A were taken from their graphics lesson to take part in a Dance lesson with Hilary.  It was great to see some of the students who have already experienced dance in year 7 this term really shine in this lesson.

Later on in the morning primary school students in 4C received a Music lesson with Richard, Nick took over 4A for Drama and 5D explored a Dance lesson on the Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam.

The delegates said how impressed they were with our students and how well they threw themselves into all the tasks they were given. We will have more Juilliard curriculum specialist visits throughout the year with our Drama Specialist Stephanie Cunningham visiting in November, Salla Saarikangaas our Dance Specialist visiting in February and Steve Dunn our Music Specialist visiting in April.  This will give many more of our students the opportunity to work with Juilliard professionals. Please keep an eye out for parent opportunities to meet them too.
