BSKL was one of the 110 schools competing in various age categories and events under the gruelling sun, with some events lasting several hours. Over 3000 athletes participated in this year’s championships.
BSKL’s first medal came from Zac Year 8 from the opening event of the meet, L4 Javelin, which started at an early 8.00am. He competed with 40 other children from various schools in an event that lasted over 3 hours. Zac’s first throw of 30.21 metres broke the Petaling Utama district record of 26.71 metres and he further improved his distance in his subsequent throws. He surpassed the record on all of his throws and won the Gold medal for the event, setting a new district record at 32.45 metres.
BSKL’s second medal also came from Zac later that afternoon when he won the L4 Shot Put event, competing against 69 other athletes in another 3 hour plus event. The competition was tough and in spite of having spent over 6 hours under the blazing sun, Zac showed tremendous resilience and stayed focused throughout the event, winning the Gold medal with a distance of 10.4 metres.
On the second day of MSSD, Mika Year 9 competed in the L3 Javelin event against 15 other athletes. Upon completing his first three throws, he qualified as one of the top 8 throwers for the final three throws. It was a nail biting fight for the gold medal right to the end, with Mika’s final throw of 33.17 metres securing him first place, bringing BSKL its third Gold medal. Mika also participated in the L3 High Jump event later in the week.
Having won her heat on day 1 of the meet, Sasha Year 10 qualified for the P2 100 metres finals on day 2, where she had to compete with the 7 other fastest girls within the district. Sasha went into the finals as the fastest sprinter and ran a blazing race, beating her closest rival by more than 5 metres, and winning BSKL’s fourth Gold medal of the championship in a convincing manner, continuing her 3 year reign as the fastest sprinter in the district for her age group.
Day 3 saw BSKL win its 5th gold medal as Sasha competed in the P2 Discus event. Leading right from the start, Sasha surpassed the district record of 25.01 metres on all of her 6 throws and won the event with a 30.52 metre throw, a convincing 10 metres further than the silver medalist.
At the same time that Sasha won gold in discus, Hao Zheng Year 9 competed in the L3 Triple Jump, another hard fought event, and came in second with a jump of 10.24 metres, missing Gold by just 32 centimetres! Hao Zheng on the following day, also competed in the L3 Long Jump where he won a bronze medal with a distance of 4.76m.
With two individual gold medals in the bag, Sasha competed in her third and final event, P2 Javelin, on day 4. She once again led from the start and set a new district record with a throw of 31.43 metres eclipsing the previous record by over a whopping 13 metres.

BSKL also had a truly noteworthy and fierce performance from Zachary Year 9 who finished fourth in the L3 800 metres event, just 0.2 seconds behind the bronze medalist, and fifth in the L3 1500 metres in spite of a muscle stitch.
BSKL, with only 9 athletes participating, ended the meet with a total haul of 8 medals, but there was more to come.
