As our school continues to grow and flourish, we seek new ways to develop and enhance the experiences of our students.
Our Beyond the Curriculum programme facilitates a range of opportunities for the holistic development of students.
As well as fostering community through our CCAs and upcoming Bonding Trips, our Connections programme will also be launching next week with a renewed focus on connecting to the world around us. As we build on the social development focus of last year, we are maintaining our commitment to ensuring that BSKL students are globally connected and will leave us with the tools to change the world for the better. This year, Connections will focus on Service Learning and community building, underpinned by a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals laid out by the United Nations. In addition, the range of insights that our students will gain will also help to develop them as the well-rounded individuals universities now seek.
Within these sessions, all students in the Secondary school will have the chance to explore the three pillars of sustainable development, which include the environment, economics and society. The Service Learning approach requires students to reflect on their various contexts (local, national and global) and develop awareness of the issues around them. Our students will then work towards developing an understanding of how to address these issues, whilst identifying the type of service that is most appropriate for their chosen issue. Students will learn about indirect and direct service, as well as the importance of advocacy and research. Students will be guided on project planning, forming relationships with communities requiring our support, and sustainable and long-term systems to truly help those who need it. This programme will also be supported by Mr. L’Hostis as our Community Service Project Manager. His experience in planning and leading expeditions also means that students will be able to engage in direct service learning and trips, when the opportunity arises.
As we aim to develop global citizens with a sense of purpose, these developments will allow us to develop our compassion as a community and foster a greater sense of agency in our students.
