BSKL End of Year Concert

BSKL End of Year Concert - BSKL End of Year Concert
BSKL End of Year Concert
The annual end of year concert saw all the main school ensembles get together to show off their talents.

The school primary orchestra kicked off the proceedings with two short lively pieces, this was followed by the secondary school flute choir who really got things going with performances of ABBA’s Money Money Money and everyone’s favourite Dancing Queen.  The flute choir were joined by the year 11 sax group who stayed on the stage to perform Danza by a group that went viral a few years back ‘Lucky Chops’.

Secondary Voices then took to the stage to sing Eja Eja which they had brought back from their FOBISIA choir festival early in the year this was then followed by a small jazz ensemble put together by Ms Judy & Mr Fadley.  They performed Spain by Chick Corea which saw students, Magali, Ashley & Tina try their hand at live improvisation, no mean feat.

The stage was hastily reset for the epic size of the secondary school windband who performed a piece Into the Clouds which was followed by Michael Jackson’s Thriller.  With the Young Musician of the Year  Percussion Winner Loh Jern Huang on the drumkit this definitely lived up to it’s title.

Next were the primary choir with a gospel medley & the song ‘believe’ followed by the secondary sax ensemble showcasing more amazing solo talent. Chamber Voices then changed the pace entirely taking us way back in time with the Renaissance period piece ‘Ave Verum’.  This was short lived as the brass ensemble brought us immediately back to the modern day with their energetic version of ‘Can’t take my eyes off you.’

Another huge stage reset and the senior orchestra were welcomed onto the stage with piano soloist Cathy Cheong to perform an arrangement of Howl’s Moving Castle.  The concert was closed with the fast paced orchestral piece ‘Aboriginal Rituals’ leaving everyone in a great mood and ready for summer.  It’s been fantastic to work with the orchestra this year and Ms Howarth hopes they continue to enjoy it and get involved next year.
