Parents were given a history of the Juilliard School in New York City and informed about the different ways Juilliard works with us to enhance our school curriculum. They also participated in a lesson where they very expertly performed some difficult Stravinsky!
In 2015 Nord Anglia begin a collaboration with The Juilliard School in New York, a world leader in Performing Arts Education. Each Nord Anglia school has access to an exclusive web based program ‘The Julliard Creative Classroom’. Here there are lesson plans and resources for exciting dynamic Music, Dance & Drama lessons covering a variety of styles & genres. These are written in a special Juilliard ‘flip style’ where students learn the skills before they are introduced to the pieces they are learning about. This method is key to the Juilliard approach seeking to create ‘wow’ moments in the classrooms.
All NEA schools are tasked with teaching Music, Dance and Drama through primary all the way to the end of KS3. We are pleased to announce that KS3 students will receive fortnightly dance lessons next year.
Juilliard provide each school with three curriculum specialists, one for each discipline. So we have 3 highly trained professional that visit our school in person once a year to do workshops with our students. They are also our thought partners throughout the year and are in regular contact. Ms Steph Cunningham our Drama specialist visited in November 2022 while Mrs Salla Saarikangas (Dance) and Mr Stephen Dunn (Music) will both be visiting in March.
Please keep a look out for any parent talks they might do as part of their visit – there will be audience participation!
