Thomas is excited to be join of the British School of Guangzhou as the Head of Psychology. He arrived in China in 2011 after completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology at the University of Amsterdam, specialised in work and organisational psychology and statistics. Following two years in education, Thomas pursued his passion for music, spending the next eight years as a freelance jazz musician, playing guitar and bass at music festivals, recordings, and events.
When the Covid-19 halted his music career, Thomas returned to education. He first worked in Hong Kong’s corporate education sector, before joining Nord Anglia’s bilingual school in Foshan as a teacher and Head of the Secondary English Department. During the two years working in Foshan, he completed his Master of Education, gained his Qualified Teacher Status from the University of Sunderland, and completed a course in Computer Science from Harvard University.
At the British School of Guangzhou, Thomas looks forward to being part of a diverse, vibrant and inspiring community for himself and his two children. As Head of Psychology, he aims to use scientific principles to help students build confidence, happiness, and mental health. Outside of his school responsibilities, Thomas is eager to reconnect with the local music community, continue improving his computer coding skills, and find a great new home for his family.
