Summer boasts an impressive background in psychology and a passion for working with young students, adolescents, and their parents. Having completed her master's degree in Psychology at Kingston University London, her journey into the field of counseling was sparked by her volunteer work with students facing learning difficulties in rural Thailand. This experience ignited a commitment to continuous learning and training in Youth Mental Health and Counseling.
With over 6 years of experience as a school counselor, Summer has established herself as a dedicated professional in the field. Her focus has been on adolescents and families in multicultural communities, and she is renowned for her expertise in this area. She is a registered member of the Chinese Mental Health Association, and her career has predominantly revolved around international education settings. Her recent tenure at two international schools in Guangzhou saw her providing counseling services to students in years 9 to 12, faculty, and families dealing with student-centered issues.
Summer's contributions extend beyond individual counseling sessions. She actively engages in school crisis prevention and intervention, conducts parent classes, and tirelessly promotes mental health awareness within the school community. She firmly believes in the significance of social and emotional well-being in a child's development and success, aligning perfectly with the ethos of BSG.
Summer’s journey into counseling, driven by a profound belief in the importance of mental and emotional well-being, has allowed her to touch the lives of countless students. She recognizes the privilege of understanding students on a deeper level, beyond their academic roles, and is grateful for the opportunity to be a listening ear and a source of support. In her words, "Being a school counselor gives me a great opportunity from a unique perspective to get to know our students as individuals behind the scenes and to witness their laughter and tears, struggles and suffering. I am fortunate to be here to listen and help."
Outside of her professional pursuits, Summer remains dedicated to personal growth. She invests significant time in training and supervision to continually enhance her counseling skills. Her interests are as diverse as her professional life, encompassing a love for Japanese literature, foreign language acquisition, running in natural settings, and travel. Most notably, she cherishes moments with her loved ones, which include her five feline companions. As a "mad cat lady" and a senior volunteer at local cat rescue centers, she exemplifies her commitment to giving back to the community in various ways.
