Emi Hayashi

Early Years Music Lead
Emi-Hayashi

Emi’s passion for music started at the age of 3. She studied the piano with her mother and the flute with her father. At the age of 15, she left Japan to exclusively study music at schools in the United States where she studied flute professionally. After completion of all studies, Emi began her professional music career as a flutist, playing in major orchestras before taking up a teaching role at the University of Houston after starting a family.

Emi relocated to China after her husband, an esteemed orchestral conductor, was appointed to the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Here, Emi continued playing the flute in the orchestra and teaching the students at the Xinghai conservatory of music. After 14 years of university level teaching, Emi moved to BSG in 2018, realising her passion was in teaching music to children rather than university students. Being a part of the beginnings of musical inspiration, moulding children’s natural talent as well as fostering new emerging musical interests is what makes every day of teaching so rewarding for Emi.

Since joining BSG and becoming the EYFS Music Lead, she has dedicated herself to providing and delivering high quality, inspirational music lessons across the Early Years and Primary phases. Emi has enthusiastically led many musical events during her time at BSG, including Christmas shows, Chinese New Year shows and conducting for Choir events. She also played a pinnacle role in establishing the first BSG orchestra, which alongside the choir served both the school and the greater Guangzhou community in many public concerts.

Besides continually learning, listening to, and teaching music, Emi likes to travel and explore the world with her husband and two beautiful children. When travel isn’t possible, she finds time to relax and re-charge through cooking and partaking in numerous sporting actives.
