Farewell Year of the Dragon, Welcome Year of the Snake!

Farewell Year of the Dragon, Welcome Year of the Snake! - CNY

Today our school was full of excitement as we celebrated Chinese New Year together! The day started with our adorable Early Years students singing beautifully in Chinese, followed by amazing performances from students across the school.

Year 4 students impressed us with their fan dance and chopstick dance, and our secondary students played piano and string quartet pieces that were a joy to listen to. Secondary students wowed us with their energetic dance moves, and the PSG’s Cantonese song brought so much warmth to the event. Our admin choir also delighted everyone with a wonderful Chinese song performance, adding their special touch to the day. The highlight of the day was the traditional face-changing performance that left everyone speechless—how did he do that?!

The celebration wasn’t just about performances; the colorful traditional outfits worn by students, staff, and parents made the day even more special. From bright qipaos to embroidered jackets, everyone looked amazing and added to the festive atmosphere.

After the performances, students and parents enjoyed the temple fair activities organized by the Parent Support Group. It was so much fun seeing everyone laugh and bond over three-legged races, ping pong obstacle courses, and more. Some practiced Chinese calligraphy, made paper cuttings, or painted hongbao. The Tanghulu and sugar painting stalls were especially popular—everyone wanted a taste of those sweet treats!

And of course, no Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without the thrilling lion dance and the Fortune Gods spreading good luck and golden coins to all!

It was such a fun and meaningful day, celebrating culture, unity, and the beauty of our hosting country. A huge thank you to our Chinese department for seamlessly integrating this rich language and culture into our daily lives, making it such an important part of our school experience.

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! May the Year of the Snake bring prosperity, good health, and endless joy to you all!
