Happy Pi Week!

Happy Pi Week! - Happy Pi Week

On Tuesday, we celebrated international Pi day, March 14th or 3.14. Students have been engaged with Pi and Mathematics related activities all week. Monday saw a ferocious competition between houses answering increasingly difficult maths questions.

“A 200m train, travelling at 200 meters per minute, enters a 200m long tunnel. How long does it take the whole train to go through the tunnel?” This was one of the questions. The answer is…we’ll let you work it out!

Tuesday saw the celebration of Pi Day, with every student in Secondary enjoying a Pineapple or Taro Pie in the morning, followed by a Countdown Number game during lunchtime to win valuable points for their houses for the week’s competition.

On Wednesday, we challenged students to recite the digits of Pi, but with increasing numbers of marshmallows in their mouths! It got very messy very quickly, but a great time was had by everyone who participated.

Thursday celebrated students who had received their Pi badges for completing their IXL homework to a very high standard by giving everyone a donut, or a “Torus” if we’re being accurate about it! Delicious!!

Friday saw the culmination of the students efforts by completing the Pi lines in the Mathematics department corridor, as well as a final relay race competition between houses.

Be sure to ask our students who won next week when the Maths department has counted up the scores and decided which house is to be crowned the Mathematics victors of 2023!
