Pearl River Conference Tournament

Pearl River Conference Tournament - Pearl River Conference Tournament

Without any doubt, I believe that the girls in the U14 Volleyball Team would all agree that we’ve had a busy but phenomenal week, especially because of the success we’ve achieved in the challenging PRC Exchange during the weekend…

On the early morning of Saturday 25th, the Rhinos traveled all the way to Shenzhen for their biggest milestone yet: The Pearl River Conference Exchange Tournament. And even after losing one of their valuable player, Adriana, the girls did a marvelous job winning the whole tournament.

The first match was against CIS, and the team blew away the Cougars once again. With powerful serves and quick saves, the girls won with a straightforward 2:0, and left the court beaming and ready to face the next game. There’s no better way to start a tournament.

The second game was against the hosting school ISNS. After an effective warmup and a moment of weighing up their opponents, the girls aced the first set of the match, mostly thanks to star player Geneve’s accurate, hard spikes that left the Phoenixes in shock and jittery for the next spike. However, it seemed clear that the opponents have came back stronger and more ready than before. The Rhinos took some time adapting to the change, and in the end, it was ace server Joyce who made the team go from 18:24 to 26:24 with her amazing overhand serves. leading the girls to another victorious win.

Finally, the finals against ISD was definitely our most intense game. The girls started out determined and smoothly won the first set Despite that, the second set was much more challenging. When the Rhinos were just an inch away from winning the match, a powerful server stepped into the game from ISD and took the victory away from us. This was a really big punch in the chest for the girls, as we all expected we would win this round, however, after a motivational speech from Mr.Jemli, we found back our determination and team spirit, and smashed the third set by 15:8, placing the Rhinos first in the tournament.

In conclusion, our volleyball team has come a long way from the start, and even though we still have a lot to improve on, the team’s support to each other would never fade throughout the season. Last but not least… GO RHINOS!
