Congratulations to our Secondary school who put on three incredible performances of the classic musical "Guys and Dolls" on 21st – 23rd March. The show was a resounding success!
A huge congratulations to our incredibly talented performers. The stage cast did a stunning job of acting, singing, and dancing, accompanied by a full 19-piece live band. This would not have been possible without the expert support of our performing arts team, supported by the admin and support staff. Although there are a number of students in the limelight, we also have to remember that many students gave up hours of their time to support as backstage and technical crew. The musical is a testament to the power of teamwork and collaboration.
Drama Teacher Mr. McLaughlin commented on what he likes about the show. “It’s a combination of different things. I can see students who’ve been doing this for years and they are taking on bigger parts like the designing and choreography of the show. It’s always exciting to see students doing a show for the first time, nice to see them overcome lots of challenges and be more disciplined. And the dancing is just amazing. It’s a really exciting and wonderful show the team has put together!”

Let's hear from some of the students what they love about participating in "Guys and Dolls".
Ayisa (Sarah Brown) - I love how everyone with so much diversity came together as a team to work on the production, and it really taught me to embrace and enjoy what everyone is passionate for.
Max (Sky Masterson) - It has to be the atmosphere backstage where everyone knows each other’s songs and silently sings them backstage while the scene goes on on-stage. We might look like maniacs backstage, but trust me, it’s fun.
Ka Ki (Miss Adelaide) - What I enjoy the most is seeing the show slowly come together with our hard work, from small scattering pieces into a complete 2 hour show.
James (Nathan Detroit) - Being an actor, you can be someone else. You can forget about your worries. Studying for the IB exam is very stressful and it's an opportunity to relax and have fun.
Billy (Arvide Abernathy) - What I like is that we can see the effort that everyone puts in has ended up with the great results we’re getting.
Hanna ( Orchestra) - I have improve my flute skills. Whenever I practice my flute, I play some Guys & Dolls songs. At first, we rehearse for 2 hours a week then as we get close to the showtime, we rehearse for around 6 hours a week.
William (Nicely-Nicely Johnson) - It’s my 3rd consecutive show at BSB. This is a really comical character basically it’s like me in real life. I can act it out really easily and it has a really good effect on me.
Austin (Benny Southstreet) - It’s really fun seeing the play come to live. From the start when we didn’t know anything about it, to today’s performance and to be able to show off the hard work we did for the past few months - that’s probably my favourite thing.
Jai (Harry the Horse) - Last year was the 1st time I did a BSB show so it’s nice to step up and be able to work with new people, and to experiment with new things. There were a lot of new students joining from Year 7 and I like working with them.
Charlie (Detective Brannigan) - We get to be with other people who are also interested in drama and music. It’s really fun to have something extra for us to work on. Once the show is done, we really feel very proud of ourselves.
Oliver (Big Jule ) - You get to show other people what you can do. It’s fun, you can act with your friends, meet new people. Everyone work as a team to put this play together.
Yasmin (Gen. Cartwright ) - The key thing I learn is how to work more as a team. We are all good at different things so it’s really fun to talk to everyone and find out how to work with others to make a cohesive show.
Alex (Joey Biltmore) - Before I join this show, I don’t really like acting and performing in front of the audience. After this show, I really like it and I want to do it again next year.
Emilia Thorp (Mimi / Bobbysoxer / Havana Dancer) - I most enjoyed being able to express my passions for dancing and acting onstage and collaborating with other like-minded people. It has also been a nice way to take a break from my IGCSE studies.
Reagan (Hot Box Girl / Bobbysoxer / Havana Dancer) - What I like is some of the stuff we did was student choreography so a lot of input was from the students instead of just taking it from teachers.
Jeina (Hot Box Girl / Girl on Broadway) - I enjoyed being able to showcase my passion for acting and singing and find people who enjoy these hobbies of mine too.
Emilia Sun (Crapshooter / Photographer) - In Primary, we had Play in a Week and I really enjoyed that. So when I knew that Secondary has a big show, I really want to join because I like drama.
Aditi (Texan / Backstage) - I like how we get to act in front of our parents and other students. I’m only on the 1st scene then I go backstage to help which is very different. It engages you a lot. You get to be with different year groups, making friends and memories together.
